This is why I don't use banks or CEX's. They are not trustworthy, and financial prudence requires trust. They are thieves and liars, and when you hand them your resources you become vulnerable to their cunning ploys and treachery. I believe my freedom is far more valuable than mere money, and I stand on this principle because I have suffered depredations of my property from these vectors of corruption in the past that left me penniless and unprepared. I did not receive relief from just courts, and have learned to guard my property myself and to rely on none other to secure it for me.

Not your keys, not your crypto. When you deposit funds in your bank account, you have given your money to the bank in exchange for the bank's promise to repay you. If they don't repay you when you seek your funds, you must sue them for tort because not fulfilling an obligation isn't considered a criminal act of theft, despite it having the same affect on your personal wealth as if a burglar had cracked your safe and taken your specie. That is considered a crime of theft, and banks do not often burgle people's homes, but do take your money just the same - because you just give it to them.

Read the TOS your bank provided you when you opened your account, and you will discover this truth. Use good judgment regarding whom you believe will honor their obligations to you. I have zero confidence in banksters, and Coinbase has just shown how faithfully they guard your cryptocurrency, just like banks. The more convenient something is, the more risky it is. For things that really matter, you should be doing the work to secure those valuables. You can only be betrayed by someone you trust.
