The UK was hit by *"Storm Emma"* and the *"Beast from the East"*. It was the first real snow in years! As the photos of my daily commute show, it was challenging! Although anybody in a real cold country will laugh at the weather conditions: just -5 Celsius and 12 mph winds, most UK residents were quite caught out.

This made me think about alot of preppers: everybody has these grandiose schemes to bug out, but it was shocking to see most people can not drive in snow! Just some snow and you are stuck! On my bicycle it took me an hour, instead of 38 minutes, but many drivers took hours to complete a journey they normally finish in 20 minutes.

If your survival plan depends on traveling many miles in adverse conditions, you are probably fucked. I am not sure how to call a fallacy I discovered: if your normal travel is hard (ie cycle, walk) opposed to "easy" ( 10 minutes by car on freeway), it is more resistant to adverse conditions. This one reason why you should not depend on too much tech: anything can fail and Sods law will prevail.

### What has this experience taught me?

I am more resilient than others, because I depend less on faillable assets ( cars) that work well in optimal conditions, but can be bothersome in case of adversity.
Also, by braving "hardships" (cycling commute, some people act like I am a professional athlete🤣) I am prepared to overcome new challenges. In case of SHTF those who are comfortable and live a effortless life, will be hit the hardest.

#### What do you think about preparedness? Is it a part of your daily life? Do you think about it on a regular basis?
