Since May 21, **Android smartphone users can finally use an official version of Tor Browser in complete security.** Indeed, Tor Project developers have just released the first stable version of this secure browser on this mobile platform. 

[A first experimental version](https://blog.torproject.org/new-alpha-release-tor-browser-android) had already been launched in September 2018. Unlike the latter, this new version no longer requires the installation of Orbot software to perform routing on the Tor network. Just go to Google Play, install the app, and go.

**Does the mobile Tor Browser version protect as much as the desktop version?** Yes, the developers believe so. 

Even if not all features have been migrated yet, the mobile version provides *"essentially the same protections"*. 
In particular, the developers have ensured that no HTTP requests can bypass the Tor network (*"Tor proxy bypass"*), that advertisers cannot snoop into cookies in other domains (*"cross-site tracking"*) and that most fingerprint protection works well (*"fingerprint defenses"*).

Finally, Tor Project reminds us once again that it cannot develop an official version of Tor Browser for iOS due to certain *"restrictions"* defined by Apple. It is recommended to use the *"Onion Browser"* application, developed with the help of **The Guardian Project.**
