I saw this movie last month and did have many expectations because I am a lover of James Wan cinema, well known for creating the most important sagas of horror like The Conjuring, Insidious, Saw etc but we are going back to the beginnings of Wan making movies of his like very much the opinion of criticism and this is how he arrived at malignant released last year and is the living representation of genere **Giallo**, it is essential to explain this genre to understand this film.

*What is the Giallo?*
It is an Italian genre of literature and cinema of the twentieth century and is defined in a genre of suspense, terror, horror, slander, psychological thriller, crime, psychological terror and the lesser frequency, supernatural terror. It focuses especially on exaggerated murders full of gothic horror by a hidden entity in the victims of some trauma in his childhood who pursues defenseless women. The impact of genre is the violent and centered form of the murders and where the paranoia of the protagonist comes out.

These films are usually very low budget, but looking to stylize with many colors and surreal photography. They may seem very bad movies, but it is there where their attractions, bad films, but entertaining where their purpose is not being good, but entertaining and something funny.

**Malignant**

Story introduces us to Madison, a woman who lives in an abusive marriage and after a blow provided by her husband, Madison begins to witness the deaths of several people by a malignant entity called Gabriel that from the beginning it is clear that something unites. But Madison works with the police to trap Gabriel.

The genre *Giallo* allowed horror to evolve and with this film we have what makes Giallos characteristic: a dark murderer with paranormal touches, a defenseless girl, a police investigation, a lot of horror and an interesting story, but Curious and quite ridiculous, but that was the intention at all times and that while watching it I could see how silly it was and unfinished because things happen that I do not know why they pass, but they are there, but in a positive way.

Because it is so ridiculous that it gives grace and the performances are just as exaggerated with many screaming, zooming in the face and in general very bad, but that is the purpose. *Malignant* is a pure representation of the Giallos, but with good budget because it shows that there was a lot of money spent there. But undoubtedly the best thing would be the villain, it is quite predictable at the beginning or at least a part because the other party is unpredictable and seeing the villain ... it is quite disgusting, but great.

It is true that there are things that are simply stupid around the villain, but the research part is very good although very silly too, but it is entertaining, also what I like the most is lighting, photography and music, these three elements are very good at the Giallos, we have very good music at all times and that mixes well with the environment, the visions are very good, quite normal at first, but then transformed into a nightmare, the zooms exaggerated to see the face of The characters and feel the claustrophobia or the open scenes where the giallo is super present, brutal murders and some laughter over there.

Personally, I had fun and I loved it a lot, I found it very fluent and entertaining, meaningless things, but entertaining at the end, the only thing I feel that I lack is construction of the characters, because it is true that they are very flat and uncommon and Desperate because they do not do anything smart throughout the film although I know that in Giallo movies their characters are stupid, but I was liked that it will be different.

It is a bad movie that its intention was to be, so it is quite understandable that many do not like it, but if you want to see something entertaining and excellent to make fun, I think evil and all the Giallos in general are good. The film is lofish and you can see a lot of the effort behind and to be a new proposal for the commercial films of terror, it is very good, different and although as you mention, I am Fan of James Wan cinema, you have to admit that the guy It is a genius of terror and a great exponent of it, also to my surprise while writing this Post I found he is the director of DC Aquaman and Furious 7.

It is a risky film that many people like and that Wan likes, so if the movie gives you grace that is the goal, so in my opinion, I like it, it is interesting and entertaining, perfect to entertain you a Time and although it is true that there are things that lack a little work, it is very good. 😊
