I had seen that vast world on the high branch
Now, in the desolate heart of the earth, 
I have searched for its ashes
The hearts of the whole world were open, 
I was their garland
But now only strength and the blow of the foot remain

Ah! What will be gained by remembering my past music?
Let my sacred melodies be forgotten in oblivion
Turn a deaf ear to my dry, sorrowful cry
I am going with a heart full of pain to the gates of eternity
