The Post
I present to your attention one of the Oscar nominees in the nominations for "Best Film" and "Best Actress". Undoubtedly, a new picture from the outstanding director Steven Spielberg only from one mention already deserves special attention, but still try to consider more closely and try to understand the reason for nominating this film for a prestigious award. I just want to note that the appearance of this picture last year was not accidental, because in 2017, the American newspaper The Washington Post is exactly 140 years old. Agree, this is a serious date, therefore, the events shown in the film should be significant. And such a story, of course, was found, and not just some mediocre story, but a real explosive blockbuster in the news equivalent.

The events of this picture tell about the greatest in the history of the US confrontation between the state and freedom of speech. According to the story in the newspaper "The New York Times" there is a devastating article, in which all the details are described government lie about the Vietnam War, which refers to official data from classified government documents. Power in the person of President Nixon could not tolerate such a betrayal, so the newspaper began a real hunt and ruthless war in courtrooms. The whole country is waiting, watching the events with awe, but at one point in the editorial staff of the Washington Post, exactly the same secret materials appear as the newspaper-competitor. The editor-in-chief and the owner of the newspaper were in a difficult situation. Now they have to make a serious decision for themselves, as a result of which they will either step aside by accepting the government's ban for granted, or go against censorship and will continue to shed light on the true truth about the dark affairs of the criminal White House.

Timing of the film is almost two hours, and immediately it is necessary for ourselves to understand that there are no actions, as such, in the film. Everything happens in words. We observe large, long, monotonous dialogues and all sorts of monologues. Heroes speak a lot and constantly. They then quietly talk about the past, then they discuss with anxiety the next steps. But despite all this frightening at first glance, inaction, the film looks with great interest. Personally, for me, as for the viewer, the events that took place were comparable to an extremely sensitive detective story, in which it was difficult to predict the further development of history. The beginning of the film begins gradually and gradually, calmly acquainting the viewer with the main characters, but then the speed grows, the dynamics increase, and the heart rate increases. Interest grows evenly with a competent arrangement of enticing forces. Already closer to the final, tearing away the screen will be almost impossible, as the situation is heated to the limit, emotions are spilled over the edge, and the main event of the film, like an air raid, inflicts its awesome bombing on the most unprotected viewers' centers of emotional perception. Of course, this film is not designed for a large mass audience and the more will not be interesting to carefree young people. First of all, this is a serious movie about adults with big problems. There is no entertainment or waste of time. This film is intended solely for those who are interested in the topic of human rights actions, journalistic investigation and big secrets of political games.

As for the production itself, here, I'm sure, no one will doubt the quality of the work done, because everyone knows Spielberg and knows his attitude to serious cinema. Especially I want to note a wonderful camera work for myself, because shooting the entire film almost indoors needs to try very hard to make the picture blur the eye and do not strain visually. In the frame, everything is perfect, from the location of the pens on the desk to the acting masterpieces. As for me, in this film it is rather difficult to single out specific artists, because thanks to the general tandem, it turned out to be an excellent show. All of each other perfectly complemented, and no one was pulling on a blanket, although, of course, Meryl Streep nevertheless allowed herself an excessive stratagem. As for me, she looked worse than others, because she was not quite real, unlike other heroes, but, this did not stop her from getting a nomination for the best female role. Of course, I can be mistaken because I personally do not know Catherine Graham, the real mistress of the Washington Post newspaper, and I do not know her features in facial expressions, looks, and so on. But the men's composition will please absolutely everyone, because you can not overlook it. Brilliant, beautiful, competent and clear - all these words relate to each actor from the main line-up. I can not fail to mention Tom Hanks, who was simply magnificent in his image and Bob Odenkerc, the star of the series "Better Call Saul", which gave us unforgettable moments of honest actor's presentation.

Summing up, we can say that if you liked the film "In the center of attention" in 2016, then it's unambiguous. If you are not a fan of all this, then you better pass safely, because you will be clearly disappointed by what you saw. But one thing I can say for sure is that the story shown in the film is the prehistory of other even more important and significant events, which in the world became known as the Watergrain Scandal, which led to the resignation of President Nixon. And on this occasion, right after the "Secret Dossier" is recommended to see the picture "Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down the White House" with Liam Nison in the title role. Two films, one story and the whole world.
