Alles, was ihr über den MERGE wissen müsst: ETH wechselt bald zu Proof Of Stake. Großer Meilenstein, aber ETH könnte dadurch zentralisierter aber auch letztendlich deflationär werden.

The Merge, wie der Wechsel von Proof of Work (POW) zu Proof of Stake (POS) bei Ethereum genannt wird, ist wahrscheinlich eines der signifikantesten Ereignisse im Krypto-Space der letzten Jahre.

Mit dem Merge wird die ETH 2.0 Beacon Chain mit dem Ethereum Mainnet vereinigt und es werden dann keine Blöcke mehr gemined, sondern von den Block Producern, produziert, die dafür mindestens 32 ETH staken müssen, um am Konsensus- und Reward-Mechanismus teilzunehmen.

Die größten Block-Producers werden übrigens große Firmen und Exchanges sein. Lido, Coinbase, Kraken und Binance haben laut Schätzungen über 66% Anteil an den gestakten ETH, was zentralisierte Exchanges noch mächtiger machen wird.

Durch den Wechsel auf Proof of Stake sinkt auch der Energieverbrauch von Ethereum dramatisch um 99.95%, und nimmt damit auch den ESG-Verfechtern den Wind aus den Segeln. Damit wird das Krypto-Ökosystem auch insgesamt profitieren und man wird Ethereum NFTs nicht mehr wegen dem Energieverbrauch verteufeln können. Darauf freue ich mich schon.

Und noch eine positive Entwicklung wird es durch den Merge geben. Die Inflation von Ethereum sinkt ebenfalls dramatisch, da die Staking-Rewards nur noch 10% der Mining-Rewards ausmachen werden. Zusammen mit dem London Hardfork (ETH Burning der Base Fee) wird Ethereum wahrscheinlich sogar deflationär werden.

An den hohen Transaktionsgebühren wird The Merge aber vorläufig nichts ändern. Das Skalierungsproblem soll dann in Folge mit weiteren Hardforks (Sharding) angegangen werden.

The Merge wird voraussichtlich um den 15. September 2022 stattfinden, wenn die kumulierte Difficulty 58,750,000,000,000,000,000,000 erreicht hat.

Wie wird sich der Merge auf den ETH Preis auswirken? Denkt ihr, dass Grafikkarten dadurch endlich wieder verfügbar und billiger werden? Was sind die Gefahren der Umstellung? Wird Ethereum nicht mehr so dezentralisiert sein und zentralisierte Exchanges an Einfluss gewinnen?

The Merge, as Ethereum's long anticipated switch from Proof of Work (POW) to Proof of Stake (POS) is called, is probably one of the most significant events in crypto space in recent years.

With The Merge, the ETH 2.0 beacon chain will be merged with the Ethereum mainnet and blocks will then no longer be mined, but produced by the block producers, who have to stake at least 32 ETH in order to participate in the consensus and reward mechanism.

By the way, the biggest block producers will be big companies and exchanges. Lido, Coinbase, Kraken and Binance are estimated to have over a 66% share of staked ETH, which will make centralized exchanges even more powerful.

The switch to Proof of Stake also dramatically decreases Ethereum's energy consumption by 99.95%, taking the wind out of the sails of ESG advocates as well. This will also benefit the crypto ecosystem as a whole and people will no longer be able to demonize Ethereum NFTs for energy consumption. I'm looking forward to that.

And there will be another positive development from The Merge. Ethereum inflation will also drop dramatically, as staking rewards will only be 10% of mining rewards. Together with the London Hardfork (ETH burning the base fee), Ethereum will probably even become deflationary.

However, The Merge will not change the high transaction fee situation for the time being. The scaling problem will be addressed with further hardforks (sharding) in succession.

The Merge is expected to take place around September 15th, 2022, when the cumulative Difficulty has reached 58,750,000,000,000,000,000.
