Lurking in the Shadows - the battle between color and black and white
Today's drawing is basically a reworking ( as talked about in ['drawing' closer to finishing my book](https://peakd.com/hive-158694/@vincentnijman/drawing-closer-to-finishing-my-book-back-to-the-basics) ) of an earlier illustration to my upcoming book, that looked too dark on the E-reader version.

I couldn't help myself though, and felt like and decided to use color anyway, eventhough it's pretty much the opposite of what I said I would do: black and white-ish drawings for better contrast.

Anyhow, that's just how I roll. I'm a stubborn creative after all. It's an understatement that I don't like to follow rules, not even if I set them up myself.

Here is my illustration in three steps:

Added some more colors and grass:

This one is fully watercolored.

I actually like the look of this.

I worked on this piece, this afternoon, while lurking in the shadows - listening in on a conversation between @clareartista and a couple of other fellow creatives, during the so called 'Co-creation' sessions, where all of us create in one way or another while talking about the world.

I didn't get Zoom to work ( my video that is ) on the laptop that I have been using for a couple of weeks now, but I could see and hear them doing their thing.

In all honesty, I felt like lurking today and not much like talking or showing my face on video. I'm still pretty tired.

Coincidentally ( or not, I leave that up to you ), Hypersensitivosaurus ended up being faceless too, ( on ) today ('s illustration).

By the way, this is the original illustration that this was based on:

![Raptor Hunting for Food.jfif](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/vincentnijman/23xATpCNz7ARyvWjSoq2wynHgY1uTVAxy1EV9vPwZZqcQfNouZd6ZrRto5FnamU3xBVQG)

Although I like this style too, mixing landscape photography from my area, here in Portugal, with a cut out drawing ( actually beaming the photo on my wall with my movie projector and taping the drawing on it ), colorwise this just doesn't seem to work, in black and white.

You hardly see the raptor on it.

Although...

I just doublechecked.
Perhaps ( probably ) I am just overthinking things ( my standard mode ). It looks okay.
Just way better in color than in black and white.

In fact, today's watercolor drawing/ painting almost looks worse in Black and White.

*Sigh*

I think I should end it here for today, before I feel too much like I am taking one step forward and two steps backward.

I will keep grinding away, without grinding too much, taking babysteps and sometimes adult steps, day after day. Eventually, sooner rather than later, I will finish this book. An optimistic guesstimate would be to try to do so ( around the end of ) next month, if I would actually make this a NaNoWriMo ( National Novel Writing Month ) goal.

Perhaps I will.
Perhaps I should.

On the plus side, I am starting to enjoy the process more, once again and in the end, that is what counts.

TO BE CONVINUED...

Thanks for patiently following me on my journey.

Was signed,

Hypersensitivosaurus
