# Ist das Jazz oder kommt es dem Genre „nur“ ziemlich nahe? Egal – Hauptsache gut!

At today's Jazz Matinée, the big stage belongs to artists who are all listed by the editors of the music feuilleton in the **‘Jazz’** section, thereby awakening mixed feelings among the die-hard purists of this musical category. The most frequently articulated judgement: **‘This is not jazz.**’ The argumentation can be developed but is typical of all those who do not accept other opinions from either the left or the right, making it an almost ideal opportunity to simply enjoy the music or to dissect jazz into its individual parts with tweezers and a scalpel.

> Während der heutigen Jazz-Matinee gehört die große Bühne Künstler, die allesamt von den Redakteuren des Musik-Feuilletons in der Rubrik **»Jazz«** geführt werden, dabei bei den eingefleischten Puristen dieser Musikrichtung gemischte Gefühle zum Leben erwecken. # Big Dave & The Dutchmen – When the Blues ensnares Jazz / Wenn der Blues den Jazz umgarnt</center>

Here's what a music critic had to say about **Big Dave & The Dutchmen** in just a few lines: *‘In places, this album sounds like it's straight out of the days when black music from the Mississippi Delta was the Lord of Darkness’ tool for seducing young souls. The whole thing is musically very coherent — no exaggerated solos, just honest, solid blues playing. An album that is a great pleasure to listen to.*’

This **Belgian-Dutch formation** recorded the album in just two days at the **Rabbit Field Studio in Antwerp-Hoboken**, and while listening to the album, the question was constantly in the back of my mind as to whether I had landed on 50s Blues, Gospel, Soul or Swing? However, it really does seem to be undoubtedly the right mix that has catapulted Big Dave and his Dutchmen into the Jazz Charts.

# Sofiane Pamart – The perfect counterbalance to the hectic pace of everyday life / Das perfekte Gegengewicht zur Hektik des Alltags

Just a few bars of listening are enough to suggest that **pianist Sofiane Pamart's** roots are in classical music. But excursions into jazz are not uncommon, as his third solo album, which is now on sale under the title **‘Noche**’, proves. His first release took us on a tour around the world and the second album was intended as a love letter to his audience, but now he takes us into the depths of the night, emphasising the close connection between the composer and nature.

Frenchman Sofiane Parmat was one of the most streamed classical music artists in 2023. Indeed, he is the first pianist ever to fill the **Accor Arena Bercy** to capacity with 20,000 listeners. His new album features his so-called **‘shadow partner’ Guillaume Héritier**, who translates his friend's music into moving pictures. This has resulted in a film (shot in six different countries) that brings the pianist's universe to the fore. It is made up of travel, poetry, melancholy, romance, secrets and immense hardship.

# Sinne Eeg – Traditional sound with a Scandinavian flavour / Traditioneller Sound mit skandinavischem Stempel

There's no need for jazz connoisseurs to say much about the **Danish Radio Big Band**. Their collaboration with **Miles Davis, Stan Getz, Eliane Elias and Joe Henderson** has proven over the years that when it comes to translating the American big band sound into Scandinavian, there is no way around the 19-piece orchestra. This was probably also appreciated by lyricist and composer Sinne Eeg, who invited her compatriots into the recording studio. And the result is a homage to the days of the great line-ups of **Count Basie or Quincy Jones** - just with the Danish seal of quality.

For many years, Sinne Eeg has been known in the music business for her compositions and as a songwriter, captivating audiences with her outstanding scat singing, her perfect tone and her infectious empathy. All thanks to **Al Schmitt**, who enjoys a reputation as one of the best technicians in recording studios worldwide. This album **‘We've Just Begun**’ was produced by **André Fischer**, who has contributed his many years of experience in the field of jazz.
