 # Lately I've been feeling a lot like this shrub. I'm feeling restless & confined. My mind is cloudy. I yearn for sunlight, warmth and new growth. I just don't feel myself! This isn't usual for me to feel so fed up with things. Mercury retrograde is occurring which I believe accounts for much of the weirdness around the homestead ... We've got a few weeks of this. # What the heck is she talking about? If you have no idea what I’m talking about, here's my best effort to explain the basics as I understand them. Three to four times a year, Mercury passes the earth in its orbit. Mercury is situated closest to the sun so its orbit is much shorter than Earth’s. As it speeds past earth and rounds the bend, Mercury slows down and appears to stop and spin backward. Mercury is NOT moving backwards but from our vantage point on earth it creates an optical illusion appearing this way. In astrology, Mercury rules communication so all areas of communication go haywire for about three weeks during this retrograde. Even people who don't believe in astrology often admit to the effect that Mercury retrograde has on their life. It's not joke that I've had a terrible time with my computer this week. My hard drive died and then came back to life (thank goodness). It provoked me to back everything up carefully. It's got my attention and I am on full alert. Mercury also rules all formal contracts and agreements, as well as important documents such as book manuscripts or term papers, agreements, deeds, contracts, leases, wills, and so forth. They say that during Mercury retrograde we should avoid making big decisions, launch new projects, have surgery and other "big things". I personally believe there is something to it. We don't track or follow Mercury retrograde and yet when things feel a certain way, we check and not surprisingly we discover that Mercury is in retrograde. This does not mean we can sit back and let that take blame for our bad attitudes, fortune or whatever else. Instead it can be used as a tool. I know that my emotions go awry so I'll be more careful to keep that in check. Knowing that perhaps some of my thinking is on the irrational/overly sensitive/negative and that my thoughts aren't a clear: I'll try to get outside more, laugh more and shake off the grey that seems to come over me. # When outside forces are effecting us always remember to be kind to one another, patient and aware.
