OUT OF ORDER

*Out of order,
I stumbled from door to door,
Looking for something,
Seeking for someone to tell me
What it is I am looking for.
Lost, I am lost in this world.
I can't feel my toes, my knees,
My shoulders and my head.
Do not fret, it is nothing but
A childhood rhyme rhymed upside down.
I lose feeling like bobbing bones
In the Sahara, peeking at the sun
With each passing wind.
Tell me something, anything
To place a marker, a GPS tracker
To where I lost myself;
Remind me of me.
I kiss my lips and taste
The sour breath of last night's memory
Of all the meals I didn't eat
And the alcohol I didn't drink.
Who wants me in their home,
A shadow on the wall like a gecko
Waiting for a fly to perch on its tongue,
A small morsel of murder, of survival?
Who wants me in their home,
A stain on the bedpost like blood,
Like semen after sex forgot
To give love some meaning?
I am lost, lost in this world.
I pulled a grass from its roots
And called it a weed, a nonentity,
An unwanted guest on the soil,
Planting itself beside a rose
Shamelessly begging a bee to take,
To strip every sweet nectar
From the tip of its petal.
Is the grass' right to life any bigger
Or smaller than mine?
I'm lost to my soul, body, my spirit.
I rhyme, I stutter, I wander
Lost in this empty space,
Out of order.*
