Im a precious metals stacker... more to the point im a silver junky!! I love gold, i love platinum, i love copper, but most of all its silver that gets my blood pumping!! Anyways, enough about my little fetish for the shiny metal, todays post will cover the importance of silver as a monetary metal and how it was the "first global reserve currency" to be used. Hopefully, we all know that silver is a great way to transfer multi-generational wealth but did you know the role its played in history?

The Spanish Empire were the first to introduce a global silver standard, based on the use of the ["Spanish dollar"](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_dollar). The Spanish dollar, which contained 25.5g (0.822 ounces) of silver was used as the first international currency because of its uniformity as a minted coin. More commonly known as “pieces of eight”, it was called that because one coin was worth eight reales, being widely recognised and used throughout Europe, the far east and the Americas it made sense that this *silver* coin would be the first reserve currency.

The **pound** sterling, which dates back to the early Middle Ages, was produced in Anglo-Saxon England by physically dividing a one-pound mass of silver into 240 smaller denominations. England’s historical use of a silver standard continues to resonate in the name of its currency, the “pound sterling" and continued to be the legal basis for the pound sterling until 1816.

After the American Revolution, the US adopted a silver standard based on the Spanish dollar in 1785. This silver standard was legally mandated by the 1782 Mint and Coinage Act, which established the silver United States dollar as the official unit of currency.

Mark Twain once said that "history doesnt repeat itself, but it often rhymes", meaning that things tend to have a cyclical patrwr and often playout several times over, in similar fasion but not identically..... 

Eventually, the world will reincorporate gold and more specifically silver as the reserve standard of money. Therefore and in my opinion, both gold and silver are completely undervalued relative to fiat currencies. If gold is undervalued to "fiat" and has a current ratio of 80+:1, silver is therefore undervalued relative to gold and is looking to be a great bet and the best hedge against the coming currency collapse.
