Coins, bank notes, gold, silver and other precious metals have played a huge role in shaping the stories of our lives. But its not just the intrinsic value of an item that makes it important or historic. New technologies, new designs, an error in the making or just sheer beauty can all compound to make an item irreplaceable and iconic.

In this series of posts, ill cover some of the coins and items that first got me stuck in the downward spiral of what is affectionately known as "stacking" and share with you fine folks the significance and role theyve played in history.

They also issued a special Crown for King George VI, only the second crown struck for this monarch in this country. The first was struck for his Coronation in 1937 and that was half silver, this second and last crown was struck in Prooflike cupronickel. The 1951 [Festival of Britain](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Festival_of_Britain) Crown, also known as the Festival of Britain commemorative crown, holds a special place in numismatic history as a coin that commemorates an important event in British culture and history. This unique and beautifully designed coin, minted in 1951, serves as a lasting reminder of the Festival of Britain, a major national event that celebrated British industry, arts, and culture in the aftermath of World War II.

The Festival of Britain was a landmark event held in 1951, just six years after the end of World War II, which had left Britain and other nations grappling with the aftermath of the devastating war. The Festival was conceived as a way to boost the morale of the British people and showcase the country's achievements in the fields of science, technology, arts, and design. The Festival aimed to promote a sense of progress, innovation, and optimism for the future, as Britain was rebuilding itself after the war.

The 1951 Festival of Britain Crown has been highly sought after by collectors due to its historical significance, unique design, limited mintage, and high-quality composition. It has become a numismatic symbol of the Festival of Britain, representing the spirit of progress and optimism that characterized the event. The coin is often regarded as a showcase of British arts, culture, and technological achievements during a challenging period of the country's history.

Unfortunately for collectors, these coins carry little to know value. With 1,983,540 coins minted and the fact cupro-nickel has little to no value, these coins are readily available and cheap to purchase. I would recommend that as a collector, you sink £5 in to buying one off of the secondary market (Ebay).

In my opinion, you get a lot of coin and a good bit of history for your money. Coins like these are a great way to get in to coin collecting and always act as a talking point among numismatics.
