## The Future of Transportation Nowadays climate change is a major problem for our society. Cars play a significant role because they have high CO2 emissions. According to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics 86% still drive to work and only 5% use public transportation. In addition "45% (19.15) gallons of every barrel of oil (42 gallons) is gasoline." (US Department of Energy). Therefore one option to reduce climate change significant would be to encourage the use of public transportation. But what does need to change to accomplish this goal? I beliebe the cost of transportation is a substantial factor for most people. We all want to save money to spend it on other things. Most people do not really need a car but in almost all cases it is faster and more flexible than public transportation. But if prices were lowered or increased for fuel, a lot of people would switch because the advantage especially in cities is not that huge. However the top priority should be the speed, frequency and connections themselves. 99.9% of people fly to their holiday destination even if it is only 600 km away. People always choose comfort and speed over price. We need more connections and more frequent tramps and buses. Why should I try to catch the bus, where I need to wait 20 minutes if I fail to catch it, I could just get in my car and would not have to worry about anything at all. That is the largest problem of public transportation. All in all, public transportation is quite reliable in cities nowadays, but it needs to be even better. People will not switch to public transportation because they see an advertisement on TV... they see buses every day. They also will not switch because it is better for the environment.. they can smell how toxic their car is. Therefore it just needs to become faster and cheaper itself. What is your personal opinion? #### Personal Note I wrote this essay for my Cambridge Advanced English (CAE) course.
