The tragedy of the commons is a term used in social science to describe a situation in a shared-resource system where individual users acting independently according to their own self-interest behave contrary to the common good of all users by depleting or spoiling that resource through their collective action. - Wikipedia

What many may not realize is the steemit rewards pool can be viewed as a commons.

common: 1. Belonging equally to more than one, belonging to all Mankind alike

With that said, there is a huge disagreement on how best to protect the commons from greed, rape and pillage. I wrote a post two months ago on what a Spiritual Warrior would do.

https://steemit.com/ungrip/@wwf/a-true-spiritual-warrior-does-not-attack-the-bully-but-instead-helps-strengthen-the-vulnerable-and-dependent

I stand on that principle. Steemit was designed to support millions upon millions of users. With such a small number of people on the system right now, it is easy for a single user to take a large piece of the pie. Wipe him out and somebody else will then step in. The best way to address greed is to get millions of people onto the platform so that no one individual can take over. You think your slice of the pie is small now, just wait until there are millions of people here. But then again, the price of each slice will be much higher as well.

The best way to deal with murders, rapists, child molesters, thieves and all the other degenerates who engage in violence is to build up each individual in our communities to be independent, strong and empowered! We deal with the drug dealers by working hard on our relationships, families, clans, tribes and nations so that the individuals are not sucked into the lies, addictions and temptations of the dealers.

The tragedy is associated with our own weakness, dependencies, lack of self-confidence, trauma and faith. When we reconcile our relationship with ourselves, build independence, confidence, strength, passion and commitment to peace, freedom, prosperity, joy and love, then we will find the solutions for these problems we are confronted with and the politicians, police, courts and thugs have never been able to resolve.

But if we ignore these solutions and just tackle problems with force, violence and coercion, the cycle continues and we will end up destroying ourselves and others in the process.

The changes we are confronted with demands peace, freedom, patience, self-governance, independence, self-sufficiency and a burning desire to reconcile relationships ... all relationships! I have the faith to trust in the process. I know it will work. Fear is what keeps people holding on tight and preventing the shift from taking place.

The Steemit platform is the best opportunity to demonstrate how that can work. We just need to avoid the temptation to resorting to violence. There are trolls here that work hard to entice violence and they will go away once they realize that we will not fall for their tactics any longer.
