Raspberries are not just fruits that enhance your desserts, but are also beneficial for your health. According to a new study, raspberries are very good for blood and help the circulation. The berries show promising healthy benefits when tested by several healthy young men. Launched from the Metro page, the study involved 18-35 year-old men, each of whom consumed a 200-gram fruit drink and 400 grams of frozen raspberries, or a controlled drink adjusted to this juice in terms of color, flavor, and macronutrient shards . Fruit drinks contain either 201 or 403 mg of total polyphenols (compounds contained in plants, which are of great benefit to the human body and help fight disease). The researchers said the men involved in the study showed signs of short-term development in blood vessel function after consuming red raspberries in regulated amounts. They looked at the effect on the blood vessels for 2 times 24 hours after consumption, and found that those who drank the red raspberry drink had flow-mediated dilation (FMD), an indicator for heart disease risk. FMD increased significantly two hours after they drank a raspberry drink compared to FMD changes in those who drank controlled drinks and the results remained the same after 24 hours. And it turns out, the number of red raspberries consumed has no effect, since no significant difference was found between the development of FMS if men drank 400 grams of raspberries or half. "This study suggests that ellagitannins, a natural compound present in red raspberries, play a role in promoting the positive effects seen in blood vessel function of study participants," senior researcher Doctor Ana Rodriguez-Mateos of King's College London said. This research, funded in part by The National Processed Raspberry Council, is published in the journal Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysyics. "We are pleased with this finding and what this fruit might add to the list of benefits of consuming red raspberries," said Tom Krugman, executive director of the National Processed Raspberry Council.
