Putting the story of the Nazi Germany in a comedic costume, within the center with the story of the Hitler Jugend fanatic soldier, Jojo. With the over the top political correctness world of nowadays, this topic is more than provocative. But I was also curious about whether we get disappointed in one of the most original writer-directors of our age, in Taika Waititi, who at the same time plays Hitler in the movie. And I must say, no, we did not get disappointed. Because the Jojo Rabbit become a kind movie. But this say may be weird to a movie, which is full of soldiers with swastika armbands, but let us see what we are talking about.

A little bit brainwashed Jojo becomes the member of the Hitler Jugend, where they enlist similar young people to protect Germany from the Russians, from the Americans, from the British, from the French, from the Indians, from the Africans, so practically from the whole/entire world. Jojo although is a fanatic Nazi, or at least he want to be, but he is unable to kill. But that would not be bad. To grow up to the task, his compulsion to conform is fed by his imaginary friend, Adolf Hitler.

The tangle starts, when Jojo, who is keeping a very distorted image about the Jewish people in his head, by the way, finds a Jewish girl, who is hidden by their mother behind the walls of their home. From this point this is a deadlock, because he cannot give the girl up, because they would also took his mother, but he cannot hide the girl either, because how would that look in the eyes of Adolf Hitler? And practically this is the story. Everything else from now on is depending on the characters.

I will be honest. It was long ago, when I was entertained this good and loudly at a comedy. I appreciate Taika Waititi's sense of humor very much anyway, and I have also expected much from it, but it did not disappointed the viewers. There is a lot of situation comicality, the lines are very good, and I must say that I can hardly highlight only one actor for their outstanding performance. Scarlett Johanson plays Jojo's mother at full-dress. Sam Rockwell, who by the way is the training officer of the Hitler Jugend, got very funny lines. What more, the funniest moments of the movie is related to him in my opinion. But even Roman Griffin Davis, who played Jojo, was fine. Oh yes, Rebel Wilson was also got a role in the movie, who is blacklisted by me, so if I see her at a cast of a movie, then the movie immediately start with 5 points minus in my eyes, but in this movie, even she was also funny. Hmm, maybe she also only need a strong-handed director to give an acceptable play? It is possible to write a funny character without making it a clown, is not it? But it is not worth to highlight anyone, everyone is great in this movie. From the Gestapo Steven Merchant to Jojo's fatty friend, everyone is. And this is possible, because the characters are friendly, among other things. They easily grown to the viewer's heart, because mister Waititi, besides the humor, took attention to give sympathetic characters, so it is easy to become identical with them, even in a so hard historic situation like this.

Between Jojo and the Jewish girl, although the abyss is huge, yet the story of the two not only make the viewers laugh, but carries them with itself as well, because they are dependent on each other, and that is requirines to get to know each other.

Obviously this gives the main point of the movie, and obviously this is the reason why the story was put into a so radical era. And because the mother hide Elsa, her role is also getting deeper as the story progress. These every day characters are very well fit to Scarlett Johansson. Simpy she get a wider space to become more funny, more comic, more human. Due to the historical situation the movie obviously has its darker moments, which are very well making the feeling that besides the comedy, the drama also has a huge place, but I still feel that master Waititi primarily aimed to give a heart touching story to the public, which has its sad and funny moments too. Obviously with their own moral of the story.

We should have got used to this, because the Hunt for the Wilderpeople and the What We Do in the Shadows was like this. It felt good to watch Jojo Rabbit, that 100 minutes play time was almost flyed away, and I am going to be honest, I would have watched further.

Obviously I could write spoilers, situation examples, or I could go into subplots, because the movie is very well quotable to remain with us, but I would rather suggest to go into the cinema, and watch the movie yourselves. Decide if the movie is really what it is as I see it. Because as I saw it, I have to say that a good comedy is very rare, but if something is good, then it should be appreciated. And the Jojo Rabbit in turn within this is an instant classic. This is how you do this.
