So the majority of my in-laws didn't have much interest in doing very strenuous hikes during my week in Phoenix, which was unfortunate since I just wanted to climb stuff. Thankfully my sister-in-law's boyfriend was along on on the trip so we went and climbed stuff on our own a few times. Sunday afternoon we climbed up Piestewa Peak (which is apparently formerly known as Squaw Peak in case any of you were wondering), which was a really fun climb but made slightly less enjoyable by lots of people being there (many of whom were playing music on their phone speakers). It was around 1 mile each way, with about 1200 feet of elevation change, so it was pretty good and steep. We made the ascent in around 30 minutes (for those of you counting at home that's a 30 minute mile) which was a much quicker pace than it turns out my body preferred. By the time we got to the top I was very physically exerted and it wouldn't have take much more for me to spray my lunch all over the scenic summit. But, **I made it!** And **it was beautiful!** Thankfully most of the people on the trail didn't make it all the way to the summit, so it was much more peaceful on top. There are few more things more satisfying than standing at the peak of a mountain, dripping with sweat, and looking out over the surrounding landscape with a sense of satisfaction in your soul and an incredible weakness in your legs.
