I've been involved, immersed and interested in Warhammer 40,000, the tabletop boardgame for more than 20 years! I was around my daughter's age now when I first got interested in the hobby.

At that time I was doing Karate as a young man and two of the other Karatekas were exchanging codexes (army rulebooks) and I caught a whiff of this. Later on I would join at a friend's house and started reading and being introduced to the units and rules.

Later I took part in my first battle.

Still later on, I started collecting my first models. Myself and @lex-zaiya's partner Nic, and I got our first models together and so started my own journey that had be very busy with 3rd through to 5th edition.

I had a long hiatus and became a dad and playing my hobby became unmanageable. Now with all the kids older, I am able to get back into it and jumped back in towards the end of 9th edition of the game...

And now... the new Chapter of the Story!

# My son starting his own army!

Warhammer 40,000 10th Edition just launched. With the new edition there was a brand new release box called Leviathan and in that box comes two armies: Space Marines and Tyranids.

I have a large Space Marine army and this will grow my existing collection.

Meanwhile my son gets to start his own army, one of a swarm of aliens who are intent on devouring all biomass in the Galaxy!

Anyway... makes for an awesome game!

Part of the fun is assembling the models! Luckily Meren's first models are push-fit models meaning they are easier to assemble and somewhat mono-pose.

However, there are tons of skills he has needed to learn. Foremost being: Patience!

Clipping, cutting, shaving off mold lines and light sanding is one part.

Then following the instructions and you clip the models together one step at a time like Lego and you shall succeed!

We had to do a lot of this by candle light because the power was off due to National Load Shedding. At least boardgames is something that you can do without power!

All said and done and look at our awesome models starting getting together! Soon we will be done with all of them and we will be hitting the battlefield with units and dice!
