#KISS - Reducing the negative impact on the environment.

More and more people are becoming aware of the need to avoid polluting the environment. We can usually do something to take better care of our house, our street, our neighborhood, our planet. How can we do it and at the same time lean towards minimalism? Before I start, I want to say that today I read a post from a fellow here in the community where he opined that it is very difficult for 100% of our actions not to pollute, and he is right. We can reduce a lot of it, but it may be difficult to eliminate it completely. That's why I like to phrase what I do as a "reduction" of the negative impact my lifestyle can have, recognizing that I can still do something or other in favor of that. That being said, what are some of the things I do in my lifestyle that are environmentally friendly? ###### GROW SOME OF OUR OWN FOOD

Part of my family has dedicated time and resources to growing some of our food. For example, my mother likes to grow plantains and cambur. She has been doing it for years and has gained a lot of experience. Even so, she continues to ask questions and get advice on how to strengthen the new plants, since sometimes they do not produce the expected product. Sometimes we have been able to plant other plants and harvest other products. It is something that fills us with joy. It is a great satisfaction to be able to eat something that we have worked for every week. We also share it and that makes us happy. Having a garden is something simple, minimalist. In fact, we are planning to return to this activity. I am consulting with a friend about seeds and types of cultivation. We hope that this project will materialize later this year. ###### ORGANIC WASTE We have a space in the yard to put all the organic and biodegradable waste we produce, shells, husks, and the like. We accumulate it all there and sometimes it has served as fertilizer for the plants. Why do I think this is environmentally friendly? Because when we throw it or mix it with some soil to cultivate we are helping it to have the necessary properties for the plant to thrive. In addition, we reduce the use of plastic bags that are taken away by the public waste collection service in the community. So there will be less material that we know takes a long time to completely destroy. And you know what one of the unexpected advantages of doing this is? Sometimes there's a plant that surprises us and grows nearby. It seems that the seed of some fruit is washed away by rainwater, wind or maybe the dog, and it germinates strongly in the soil and grows at full strength. For example, a few months ago, we had a tomato plant that grew surprisingly and we harvested several fruits of very good quality. And as you can see in this photo, we already have a new plant that is already showing its first fruits! Great! ###### CYCLING. Apart from walking, biking is my main mode of transportation. It's an eco-friendly thing that doesn't pollute. So I'm not investing for now in any vehicle that consumes fuel and pollutes at all. And I think the main beneficiary is me, as it helps me stay in shape and I avoid the stress of looking for fuel these days, which is so hard to come by in my locality.

**Obviously, there are some habits that could be improved to be friendlier to the planet. And I believe that as long as we live we can have the opportunity to support a better world. In the meantime, let's applaud those of us who are already taking simple steps to make our lives happier. See you next time!**

###
〽️

#### FUENTES / SOURCES **Images:** Made by me in GIMP with images captured with my Canon EOS Rebel t3i camera. **Banner:** Made by me in GIMP with my own images and free resources from the site pfpmaker.com/ **Language:** Post written in Spanish and then translated into English through DeepL Posted Using [InLeo Alpha](https://inleo.io/@aaalviarez/kiss-reducing-the-negative-impact-on-the-environment)
