The activity comes a show of resistance towards some of the bad government orders and ideas. They wanted to take the house to make some poorly organized events, so the literary group in which I partake decided to do something to prevent this. Of course, more of the idea came from the director of the house, but it sure helps we were all in for it.   There are good and bad things about these events. For instance, some amazing books are for sale on the makeshift market that took stage near one of the churches in Cumaná. Nothing from the tables is cheap. That's sad, but so is life! Books are valuable. Some of the things they have for display are great. And I believe its worth every penny. I'm not buying books as I have too many already and need to read more. Arts revolve around these events. This year, we had a display of music since the Culture's Cabinet is just there. And they decide to show some local groups and there was always music playing. However, it plays against the conferences being in the house. Since they never get the volume right. But at least they are giving people the space to enjoy some of the art. Some displays of handmade toys and regional sweets were around this place.   But the main event came as the hour to start reading came about. It's always funny to be the odd ball in the group. Everyone is reading some poetry of certain length. Me? I write haikus. So whenever I need to make my stand, I gotta go around the basics of this type of poetry. The faces of people are always a poem on itself. They don't know what to make out of the things I read. It's ok. Haiku isn't a style for long readings. Besides, each one of this poems needs more than one reading to understand it. And I bet it was made to be read in silence. It isn't the flashiest of poetry to entice with rhythm and rhyme and other elements. However, having people looked vexed trying to piece out the poems is always a treat. The literary group keeps growing and now we have more things to do on Thursdays as we keep going into the in's and out's of poetry. That should be interesting. We also learned from one of the conferences that there's been some interesting programs promoting poetry around the eastern areas of Venezuela. Some of these programs are aimed to the youth. Who knows what will come out of these endeavors.  It was a good way to start last weekend. A good time with poetry and a walk among books.
