There are some new coffee places in town that have been under the radar for some reasons. This one is a particular one. I remember there was a lot of fuzz about it during its grand opening. However, the place was somehow shrouded in some kind of mystery for some time. I believe it had to do with an intrigue campaign. Maybe it works for them, maybe it does not.

I'm talking about *Cafe de Antaño* located at Bolivar's Square right at the heart of Cumana's downtown. The place used to be an ice cream shop a some years ago. Then it remained closed for another number of years. The problem with the former business was that it was cash only. That had hard repercussions during the years when cash was scarce. Yes, we have also had shortages of cash alongside food, medicine, and the one that should be a joke but is not, gasoline.

The place isn't open during weekends for some reason. So I can't go there when I get out of classes. However, the first time I went inside was after a meeting before the start of classes. I invited @octocel who was also intrigued about the place since its Instagram provided little to no information about many things and we had found it closed many other times.

It is nicely decorated and the coffees looked interesting. The best part is the change of climate from the hot square to a nice A/C. They are also always playing smooth music to keep people at ease inside. 

They have a variety of brews from hot to cold. They also have some especial coffees that are sweetened with different types of syrups. On our first try, she went for a cappuccino with caramel syrup. And as usual, I went for a mochaccino to test how well they make it. That's my test for good coffee in a place. The other test is usually just having an espresso to understand what they do with their beans.

Both coffees were really good. The caramel syrup is actually not too sweet. So it pairs well with coffee without overwhelming the beverage with sweetness. On the side of the mochaccino, I was pleasantly surprised by the inclusion of chocolate brought from the local cacao fields in the Paria's Peninsula. It has a very distinct flavor and the earthy notes of the chocolate paired well with the biter and sour notes of their roasted beans. We went off to have some time  to talk after having such a nice treat that afternoon. This is our to-go place, but it feels like a nice option for those days when you want something special.

The only issue is finding it open. But what is life without a little surprise. The coffee is totally worth it!
