5 + 1 Words Every Day – Learn English, Now!

I could have named this also “English for dummies”. Because this post and the following series are intended for people who know somebody who badly needs to learn English, from a beginner level, and isn’t used to learn languages. Because English seems to be inevitable, many people can’t live without it anymore, others will experience serious disadvantages in their lives without it, sooner or later. Almost to all people from 6 to 99 years can happen this.
# Don’t fight English
You need it in more and more jobs, in most foreign countries, on the internet. Stop fighting against English. Globalization, multicultural processes can’t be halted anymore in the world, I think. Fighting globalization seems to be just as fighting gravitation: small victories can be achieved, but in reality, in the longer term, it’s a hopeless effort.

Some people can learn a language better from the teachers, others are able to do it from books or digital internet lessons, others need a real-life school or courses in a group. Others can do it even watching TV or hearing radio. *([Please read my older post about this](https://steemit.com/life/@deathcross/how-to-improve-your-english-and-enjoy-it-a-lot) - [Versión en español](https://steemit.com/spanish/@deathcross/como-mejorar-tu-ingles-y-disfrutarlo-mucho).)*
# But do something
There is only one bad solution: not learning English at all. So I want to offer to your friends who don’t speak it, a simple, maybe not very effective, but easy way. All friends should have 10-20-30 minutes a day, don’t they? No more excuses!

Many people don’t have the money to pay classes, others are unable to work autonomously, others don’t know where to begin. And time flies, quickly, many people are losing valuable time, maybe failing to get a job, missing to learn something important on the internet, or having problems traveling alone.

# How many words do I need?

> If you learn only 800 of the most frequently-used lemmas in English, you'll be able to understand 75% of the language as it is spoken in normal life.
– wrote [BBC](https://www.bbc.com/news/world-44569277). (A lemma is the main word with all its derivatives, like “fast, faster fastest”, or “do, does doing, done”.)

> Functional beginner: 250-500 words. After just a week or so of learning, you’ll already have most of the tools to start having basic, everyday conversations. In most of the world’s languages, 500 words will be more than enough to get you through any tourist situations and everyday introductions.
– wrote [Fluentu.com](https://www.fluentu.com/blog/how-many-words-do-i-need-to-know/).

# One small step every day
I realize knowing words isn’t the same as speaking a language, but much more than lack of any knowledge. Whilst you are looking for the ideal solution for your brother, sister, son, grandma or another person to learn English, let them begin something.

Give her/him my new series containing every day 5+1 words or expressions in English. Remember: 365*5 are 1825, the reader can acquire a nice vocabulary in only a year. I make it very simple, in order to facilitate learning for many people, from housewife to grandpa or children.

# How to use it
I can translate the words into Spanish and German. But I‘ll put a link taking you to the Google Translator, where you can set your desired language (above the right side box) to be able to get the meaning in many many languages.

Besides the written words, you have to learn also the pronunciation. Below the left box, the speaker sign gives you the important pronunciation, the voice sample. Another solution is my other link to the Free Dictionary, with voice samples in both American English and British English versions. Maybe you should listen to both.

The reader, “pupil” should also pronounce the word himself/herself, several times, not only hear it. I hope I‘ll see your friends every day. Here is the first very simple lesson:
