One of the interesting things I often notice — in my capacity as bookkeeper for Mrs. Denmarkguy's non-profit charity — is that when it comes to donations, it's often *those who HAVE the least who GIVE the most."* In some strange way, it seems to just be *"how things are,"* but sometimes it makes me wonder about the overall state of humanity when people who should probably be using the money for food willingly donate $50 to charity *(or a worthy cause, or a friend in need)*, while those for whom $50 is pocket change they barely notice are *far less* likely to contribute anything. Mrs. Denmarkguy's charity pretty much *runs* on $20 donations from *"people who can't afford it."* I remember having a long conversation about money with a fairly successful college buddy of mine who's started a *"mid-range"* IT company and likely had an 8-figure bank account balance. I don't remember how we got onto the topic, but he was chiding me for *"wasting money that could be invested instead"* on charitable causes. I was doing at least *"OK,"* at the time. We were not talking about large amounts, either... something like $250 to the local animal shelter and $250 to the Nature Conservancy. But Philip thought that was a waste of money. I suppose we all have our own desires and ambitions. I've actually heard the argument made that *"poor people STAY poor"* because they are generous with their money, relative to how much they have. Not sure about that... Regardless, I am very grateful to the many individuals who *do* give $5 or $20 to Mrs. Denmarkguy's charity, especially around the holidays and the turn of the year, as most of the costs to maintain it comes out of our own pockets. Speaking of *"giving,"* I feel a bit sad that the recent small spike we saw in the price of Hive seems to have all been *"given back"* to the market... and we're right back where we were before. Frankly, I'm starting to get a bit tired of all this *"bottom scraping..."* but I expect it may continue for a while. Bear markets can be very persistent... Meanwhile, we're doing what we can to get by. Our friends who were here for Christmas evidently have a new mobile service that's very reasonable and has really good coverage, and saving $25 a month on cell service would be a nice thing! After a while, though, you end at a point where there just isn't any more *"fat"* in a home budget that can be cut. Next year will also be about finding ways to generate a few extra dollars in new ways... Meanwhile, enjoying a few low key days before we get to the New Year... the leftovers from Christmas are still going strong, and serve as a nice memory of my favorite part of Christmas as a child: *The Food!* Thanks for stopping by, and enjoy the rest of your week! ***Thanks for visiting!
