The great thing about Elon Musk making this Twitter splash is that it's already the greatest win for liberal values in regard to social media in recent memory.

Of course, it would be a blowout win if an oligopoly is broken by a private actor rather than government intervention and that action is done so to liberalize the policies of the company to bolster free speech.

Even if Musk can't buy the company and decides to sell off his stakes in Twitter entirely, we already have a win. Despite the rhetoric, the illiberal leftists who are freaking out about this aren't concerned about a major social media company being owned by a rich guy - it already was. They're also not concerned about it going back to private - almost all of these people detest the stock market. No, the only concern that they genuinely have is that their echo chamber will be taken away.

Just by starting this frenzy, Musk has forced the illiberal leftists to confirm everything that they've been denying for years - that social media companies disproportionally target conservative, actual liberal, and libertarian ideas for censorship. After this, even if Musk doesn't buy Twitter, the cat's out of the bag and you can't claim that we're just being paranoid about these companies trying to control the parameters of the expression of political thought. The fact that the illiberals are standing out here all pink and naked demanding censorship proves that the actual liberals in this debate have been right all along.
