Hi Guys! In this post we are exploring on another Splinterlands ruleset. The ruleset we are focusing on is Unprotected.

![Unprotected](https://images.hive.blog/0x0/https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/splinterlands/AJg9izfsZM6PV1oTi1LRqo8v8DBMmDLCvMAyDH1AGmQ91uD6mAcPV4MDeQF8xbk.png)
In a Unprotected ruleset, all armor is removed from units and one cannot gain armor. Divine Shield are not affected though.

Lets take a look at a Modern Silver ranked match with Unprotected as one of the ruleset. It is a short battle but clearly show how you can setup your lineup when you come across Unprotect ruleset.

The battle restrictions for my selected battle are:
Rise of the Commons and Unprotected with a max mana of 34. Only Water, Life and Dragon splinters are allowed in this battle. The video for the full battle can be seen here:

|Splinter|Mana Cost|Position|Reason|
|---|---|---|---|
|Possibilus the Wise|6|Summoner|I decided to go with Possibilus because I want to deploy and make full use of the Coastal Sentry, a common unit, that has high melee attack with Double Strike ability. Possibilus gave Reach and Trample abilities to Coastal Sentry and thus making it into a killing machine while hiding behind a unit. Without Possibilus, I will have to put Coastal Sentry in the first position. Doing that will cause it to die fast because it will have no Armor, due to Unprotected ruleset, and it also has a low health.|
|Demented Shark|6|1st|Demented Shark was not a great tank at all especially when it will have no armor now due to Unprotected ruleset. However it will give +1 melee attack to all my melee units. This will prove very important as my lineup will primarily be melee units.|
|Coastal Sentry|10|2nd|My main damage dealer. A crazy common unit with 4 melee attack that will attack 2 times per round. Since it will be easier to kill off units now that armor are no longer available, giving Trample ability to Coastal Sentry would allow it to steamroll across the enemy lineup.|
|Supply Runner|6|3rd|Speed was important for all these to work. My vulnerable but high damaging units needed to move first to kill off my enemy units before they get killed. For this the Swift ability from the Supply Runner was crucial as it gave +1 speed to all my units.|
|Deeplurker|6|4th|My last important melee unit. I added Deeplurker to add extra damaging dealing in case my Coastal Sentry die too early in the fight. Deeplurker has opportunity and would help to take out low health enemy units and with Trample, could also kill more than 1 unit in a round. This would take some pressure off my front units.|
|Total Mana:|34|||

Opponent Lineup:

My opponent went with a Life splinter lineup using General Sloan as the summoner. Interestingly, it wasn't a full range lineup but rather a mixture of melee, magic and range units. Apparently my opponent also knew the important of speed in this ruleset as Time Mage was used. Let see how the battle turned out.

End of Round 1:

Before the attack begins, my summoner and Supply Runner gave +2 health and +1 to all my units respective while Demented Shark gave all my melee units +1 melee attack. On the other side, the opponent Time Mage reduce my speed by 1 which countered off my Supply Runners. However my units were still generally faster as the base speed of my melee units are faster than the opponent lineup.

When the attack begins, my hard hitting Double Strike Coastal Sentry killed off 3 of the opponent front 3 units due to the Trample ability given to it by my summoner. This was quickly followed by my DeepLurker killing off my opponent DPS ranged unit.

So within the first round, the opponent has lost 2/3 of the lineup and couldn't hit back now since it ended with a ranged unit in the 1st position. A ranged unit cannot attack from the first position unless it has Close Range ability.

End of Round 2:

My Coastal Sentry then proceed to kill off the remaining 2 opponent units in round 2. The entire match ended with my Coastal Sentry killing off 5 of the 6 opponent units and it only last 2 rounds.

**KEY STRATEGY**
My strategy was to use my Coastal Sentry to steamroll my opponent lineup which had no armor.

**SUMMARY ON UNPROTECTED RULESET**
Unprotected Ruleset is quite an easy rule to understand. Here are some tips on what to do and not to when facing the ruleset based on my experiences:
1. Melee vs Magic vs Range
- It is usually better to use Melee units in Unprotected ruleset as there are more melee units to chose from as compared to Magic or Ranged. Melee units are also usually faster and hit harder.

2. Avoid Repair, Rust and Protect
- As no armor is allow in this ruleset, units with Repair, Rust or Protect abilities would not be able to use these abilities at all.

3. Speed
- Speed is probably the most important element in this ruleset. As you can more easily kill off opposing units now, the one who is faster has a good chance of killing the other side unit before they can attack. The only expectation to this is if there is Reverse Speed ruleset as well. If Reverse Speed is present then you want your units to be as slow as possible so that you can move first.

4. High Health with Tank Heal
- Another strategy would be to use a high health tank with healers at the back keeping it alive. It is a risky strategy though and I don't use it often. I only do this if I have a tank that is also fast and have Dodge or Phase like Coeurl Lurker.
