Just like every other Saturday I and Jason headed to the mall, we had to get groceries for the house. Going through the various aisles and seeing so many things I wanted but couldn’t get because we were on a budget broke my heart.

“Babe come see this”, Jason my fiancé called out to me.

“What’s that?”, I asked whilst staring at the black package in his hands.

“It’s the latest coffee brand, Harry said It smells and tastes really nice and I was so surprised to find it here.

“Let’s get- “, I couldn’t complete my statement as I was greeted by a sour sight, the one face that had hunted me for years stood right in front of me, and after how many years this face still had the power to make me perplex.

“Babe you go- “, Jason could merely complete his statement as he too noticed the monster’s face in front of me.

“Babe come here”, he gently pulled me into a hug. “We can always come back later he whispered to me.

While I was still trying to make the world steady as everything and everyone was spinning, I was brought back to reality by a familiar voice.

“Cassie you! You caused all of this! You broke my brother’s heart! You made him so miserable, look at him still pinning for you after all these years”. Angela the monster’s sister said before bursting into tears.

“I lost my fun and lively brother because of you, he can’t seem to get his life back on track anymore, it shall never be well with you for doing this, may you never find a man that will ever love you wholeheartedly”. Angela kept cursing me amidst tears, clearly she was hurt but wasn’t I the victim in all of this too? The monster stood there and said nothing, it was too hard to decipher if he was happy or sad as I could barely look at him.

Jason gently rubbed my back, held my waist, and guided me to the counter, he begged the cashier to speed up with packaging our items and the cashier was kind enough to speed up things as she had witnessed everything.

We got into the car and Jason held my hand as if that was just the permission that I needed to let the floodgate open. I broke down completely. Seeing how broken I was Jason opened the car door and headed right to the passenger’s seat, knelt, and pulled me in a hug, he kept rubbing my back. “Baby, it’s okay, calm down”. He said these words repeatedly and the more he said the calmer I got.

Cleaning my face with my handkerchief I gave him a sad smile “I’m good my love”.

He caressed my face, looked me in the eyes, and said “She’s a complete nutjob, ignore her” I couldn’t help but chuckle, “Thanks hun” I replied with a genuine smile this time.

All through the ride home I and Jason locked hands, every 5 minutes he’d turn to ask me if I was fine, rub my hands, and focus back on the road, trust my man to do the most.

“How are you feeling now?” Jason asked as we arranged the items we had gotten in the kitchen.

“I’m good love, thank you”, I replied.

“Okay baby, I’ll first make you a cup of coffee to help calm your nerves while I prepare dinner,” Jason said as he made his way to the coffee machine.

“You’re the Best!” I exclaimed.

Jason handed the coffee to me shortly and I couldn’t help but savour the smell as I took a sip.

“It’s nice, right? It’s the new brand we bought from the mall” Jason said grinning from ear to ear.

Looking at the cup of coffee in front of me I couldn’t help but break down as I remembered vividly that it was when Jason showed me the coffee pack at the mall that the heart-wrenching incident occurred.

I broke down again and Jason could not help but feel bad as he knew what was happening.

“Babe it’s okay”

“How can Angela say those words to me, does she know how I had to put up with that monster she calls a brother? Does she know how many times he had hit me? Does she know that I still can’t properly use my left leg because of the terrible fall I had when he was punching me? She doesn’t know shit and she stood there to rain curses on me?

I wept to the point that I didn’t have to energy to weep anymore. All through my outburst, Jason was there for me.

This outburst of mine happened again and again and it was more like drinking coffee was just the perfect trigger for it.

I was so hurt by the curses Angela rained on me and after a few weeks, I decided to go see Angela to clear the air on why I really left her brother.

Heading towards the familiar neighborhood that I remember Angela lived in as I and her brother usually paid her a visit while we were dating. I knocked on the door and I was greeted by an angry Angela.

“Can I please come in? “I asked politely.

She made way for me to come inside. We sat down and I narrated everything to her, I tried to hold it all in but before I knew it, Angela was weeping, looking at her, all I could see was a woman who was hurt and ashamed.

“I am sorry for everything Cassie, the accusations, the curse, please forgive me”, Angela said amidst tears.

“Cassie I never knew Harry usually hit you, I thought you guys were happy together and you just left him like that”.

Kneeling, Angela held my hands to beg me, I couldn’t hold it together anymore as I broke down completely too.</div>
