Why Am I Still List Building?

Years ago, I gave online marketing a go and it was more of trial and error. I made every mistake that folks desperate to earn an income online do and continue to do. It was five years that went nowhere.

I blame no one person or entity outside of myself, because it was my lack of patience that was at the center of my failure.

The decision to come back to online marketing was more directional and I came on with a brand new mindset, which was fortified by my health and fitness journey.

Losing weight and becoming faster, resilient and stronger takes a lot of effort and TIME.

When I put in that effort and time, I saw results. I never wavered.

That is why list building is comparable, at least for myself to that process of putting in the effort and giving it time.

List building at it's simplest is growing an email list by collecting people's email addresses with there permission.

If you have a business and you want to expand your reach, create the opportunity to engage and in many cases learn what your subscribers need then having them on your list allows you to communicate with them consistently and instantly.

Of course, the argument will be that folks don't look at emails anymore and that you can just engage with folks on the plethora of social media platforms and yes that is true to a certain extent.

Back in the day the open rate for emails was astronomical and it is almost nil these days, but even that small percentage can be golden.

What we strive for is to provide folks with enough value that most of those folks who entrusted you with their email addresses look forward to your emails and actually open it up and read it.

From a personal standpoint, I open up ALL emails from CTP, Gary Vee and a few others that I know will keep my interest and no not every email makes me rush out and spend; but if they keep my attention you never know.

I'll make this even more relatable to a HIVER.

Sorry, but I have to do it lol.

I remember being on @jongolson lists back in the day and I picked up some great tips from Jon, but I was my own stumbling block; because I didn't stick it out.

But I trusted Jon, was always looking forward to what was going on with his traffic exchange at the time, he had this awesome newsletter about traffic exchanges and it just evolved from there.

Then he partnered up with some guys and they built a business in the industry and it was always interesting to see what was next from the team that you always looked forward to reading more about it.

Being on that list alerted us to their contests, live streams, their new projects, etc.

You felt part of their team.

That is what list building can do if done the right way.

Of course, social media is where the true engagement will happen; but if you build a solid list of folks that look forward to your emails then you can tell them about your Discord channel, your videos on @threespeak or HIVE altogether.

When I got back to online marketing and it was surprising right before the pandemic came along, so I was already contemplating a return knowing that I was going into it with a renewed outlook. Then just like a blessing in disguise I had already started to do some stuff here and there with some of the older programs that were around and boom - lockdown!

That was the perfect opportunity to bust my ass before I had to go back to work. Well, going back to work was mostly hybrid and then I eventually started working fully remote for another company.

That first year that I got back to the online marketing arena it wasn't so bad:

There are a couple more list not showing on the screenshot, but it was about 1000 subscribers or so. Of course, some of them were just me trying to find a flow and testing a few things out, but the two with the most subscribers on those lists was based on a campaign where I promoted some free advertising that included some codes to access even more free advertising.

That grew my list pretty quickly and I was earning commissions weekly and so on, but along came HIVE and that was a whole breath of fresh air, because now there was something to be passionate about.

Guess what? The one person I continued to follow even through the years that I was not online marketing outside of my personal social media presence engaging and journaling my HIIT workout journey - was Jon Olson, so being on his list allowed me to still get some insight on what he was doing.

I did follow him on Twitter as well, but being on the CTP email list gave me more info and that allowed me to get more interested in taking the free CTP membership I had for years and upgrading it to get the full scope of what was all this blockchain and crypto stuff; he was going on about lol.

A few months ago, I decided to overhaul my approach and with the same things that were working for me; I decided to have just one campaign and it was strictly to let my HIVE journey be the source of the emails I send to my subscribers. The goal of the list is to inform folks about CTP, ListNerds and HIVE.

Not sell them on it. Inform them. Tell them my journey.

It's still a work in progress, but in the end it's a numbers game.

I'm up to almost 250 subscribers and I'm seeing some referrals coming in for some of the funnels that CTP offers, but I'm confident that if I keep plugging away that it will start bringing in folks to ListNerds and HIVE.

Where I lacked my first go round in patience, I have tons of it nowadays.

The only thing that hurts my progress with my list building is that I'm all in on HIVE, which means that my email marketing is relegated to some automation, my all in campaigns on Thursday nights and my daily one-offs that are worth that time.

There is a core of sites that are bringing in subscribers, so I have to take advantage of that momentum.

[The Cryptomailer](https://thecryptomailer.com/?rid=561) and the traffic generation of [Leads Leap](https://leadsleap.com/?r=jadames) consistently generates subscribers for me. 17 in two weeks with the minimal effort I put into is pretty good.

Yesterday, was Thursday; so last night I did my usual Thursday night push and already have 4 subscribers.

Overall, for the month so far, I'm looking at about 53 new subscribers with a few days to go in the month of August and for an August it's not bad considering how intermittent my efforts are.

![image.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/jimmy.adames/Enz3zfcvszktXK9SQja3u5AZAFfdHPbxVFFeBRvRyGHZKT8Ae7Y5su4A9Xe7QQYzk2c.png)

I have a few more sites I have to email from tonight, but overall if I can get to about 60 by the end of the month I'll be fine with that.

300 subscribers in the easiest immediate goal and then I'll determine the upcoming goals.

Ultimately, I still have a lot of work to do on that front; because the focus is to get the best open rate I can based on the number of subscribers and once I find a sweet spot then I can tweak my emails and begin planning a way to get some engagement going with those that are serious about learning more about ListNerds and HIVE.

What seems like a very nice person, reached out to me last night and wants in on HIVE and I also saw a few referrals to some of those CTP funnels lately, so things are starting to percolate.
