Terra Cotta Plate and Bowl
It’s cold again outside but I decided to work on my pottery wheel in the garage. Thank goodness for my kerosene heater. It keeps my garage toasty warm while I work. I have smooth jazz playing in the background while I work on the wheel and catch up on my glazing.

My pottery wheel just has two speeds, high and low, unlike the more expensive pottery wheels that I use at the senior center. The newer pottery wheels have a foot pedal and variable speed which lets me control the clay body better.

I really can’t complain though because my wheel only cost me $75.00 I think. It’s been so long ago when I purchased it. My friend just paid $700.00 for a newer model wheel a few months that was also used.

This is good enough for me to practice at home until I go back to the center.
I started off wedging the pieces of clay and then shaping them into balls so that I could throw them on the wheel.

I started off with another small bowl that will eventually be a part of a set. I may make it into a chip and dip bowl even though I don’t need one.

I threw the clay directly on the wheel head because my wheel doesn’t have bat pins to use to secure the plastic bat. That inconvenience means that I have to wait for my plate to get dry somewhat before I can release it from the wheel, otherwise it will flop and crumble.

I have my glazed pieces in the kiln and my thrown pieces drying out. It’s been a good day.

Enjoy your evening.
