This microfiction story is for the prompt ***"immigrant"***. It reminds me of individuals who are away from their home country for whatever reasons. They may be traveling a short distance or over many miles to reach new destinations. A ZAPFIC50 story is told in exactly 50 words. The challenge was created by @felt.buzz.

Walking silently in the cold night, Evan didn't understand why they abandoned their home. 

Moisture penetrated vacant soles. Blisters followed.

As ordered, he slowly climbed up the jagged rock. Excruciating pain hindered his progress. 

Finally, he peered over the side. Safety beckoned as tents glowed brightly.

He imagined a future.
