Good evening to all the Hive community. As I mentioned in my last post [I show you how I built my attic - ENG/ESP](https://peakd.com/hive-187189/@lifeblue/i-show-you-how-i-built-my-attic-engesp), I made the construction of the attic of my apartment, a few days ago, I found the photos of when I sanded it, today, I come to tell you about the process and how I did it and the tools I used. I hope that if any of you have a similar project, it will help you in some way or another.

Espero que si alguno tiene un proyecto similar, le sirva de alguna u otra manera.

After having put the structure that was made of wood from the Apamate tree, which is a very hard and resistant wood, in fact it is used a lot for the construction of ships, and as you know, I live on an island, where saltpeter is part of our daily life, and more in my case that I have the sea 1 street away. Saltpeter is quite complicated because over time it eats everything, and when I say everything, I mean everything. The most advisable thing is to clean the surfaces frequently so that they remain free of impurities and last an eternity.

>Luego de haber puesto la estructura que fue de madera del árbol Apamate, que es una madera muy dura y resistente, de hecho se usa mucho para la construcción de los barcos, y como sabrán, yo vivo en una Isla, donde el salitre es parte de nuestro día a día, y más en mi caso que tengo el mar a 1 calle. El salitre es bastante complicado porque con el tiempo se va comiendo todo, y cuando digo todo, es todo. Lo más recomendable es limpiar las superficies con frecuencia para que se mantengan libres de impurezas y duren una eternidad.

Anyway, for the floor itself, I used pine boards 20 cm wide and 2.5 cm thick. That measure is the most recommended to place this type of flooring in apartments, obviously, if you want to put thicker, it could be done, the detail is that the thicker, the heavier it is, and to tell the truth, we need our floors do not overload the structure because remember that in addition to that, we will have the weight of our bodies and the things we mount there. That's why pine is the most recommended, it's super light, it's really very light and it resists a lot. I was testing and I was riding on a board before placing it, and it jumped, it did not make even the slightest noise of fracture.

>En fin, para el piso en sí, usé tablas de pino de 20 cm de ancho y 2.5 cm de espesor. Esa medida es la más recomendable para colocar este tipo de pisos en departamentos, obviamente, si le quieres poner más grueso, se podría hacer, el detalle es que mientras más grueso, más pesado es, y a decir verdad, necesitamos que nuestros pisos no sobre carguen la estructura porque recuerden que además de eso, vamos a tener el peso de nuestros cuerpos y de las cosas que le montemos ahí. Por eso el pino es el más recomendado, es súper liviano, en serio es muy liviano y resiste muchísimo. Yo estuve probando y me montaba en una tabla antes de colocarla, y saltaba, no hacía ni el más mínimo ruido de fractura.

For me, the detail of putting these boards, is that where they were planed, it was a machine where two men passed it and it moved and therefore, its thickness varied, some of 2.5cm, others of 2.6cm and as very extreme, of 2 cm, so when I put them, you can imagine that some were higher than others. At that moment I panicked a little, because the difference was not minor, they were small steps in the joints that I had to fix so that the floor would be as smooth and uniform as possible.

>Para mí, el detalle de poner estas tablas, es que donde me las cepillaron, era una máquina en donde dos señores la pasaban y se les movía y por lo tanto, su espesor varió, algunas de 2.5cm, otras de 2.6cm y como muy extremo, de 2 cm, así que cuando las puse, se imaginarán que quedaban unas más altas que otras. En ese momento entré en pánico un poco, porque la diferencia no era menor, eran pequeños escalones en las uniones que debía arreglar para que el piso quedara lo más liso y uniforme posible.

I, as a novice building with my hands, saw thousands of totorals on the internet. Some told me to use a hand planer (which I have but the belt broke in the middle of construction), a belt sander (which I don't have) or a grinder (which I don't have either). In my positive, novice mind, I swore that the floor was going to be perfect in one go, that I wasn't even going to have to do much sanding... it wasn't further from the truth.

>Yo, como novata construyendo con mis manos, vi miles de totorales por internet. En unos me decían que usara un cepillo de mano (el cual tengo pero se me rompió la correa a mitad de construcción), una lijadora de banda (que no tengo) o un esmeril (que tampoco tengo). Yo en mi mente positiva y de novata, juré que el piso me iba a quedar perfecto de una vez, que ni siquiera iba a tener que lijar mucho… no estaba más lejos de la realidad.

I contacted a friend from work who has many tools and among them, an emery, he was the angel who came to lend me the tool I needed, it should be noted that I had never used an emery in my life, in fact, I was afraid of them, but if I wanted to finish, I had to leave the fear aside for a while and hit the floor with everything.

>Contacté a un amigo del trabajo que tiene muchas herramientas y entre ellas, un esmeril, él fue el ángel que llegó para prestarme la herramienta que me hacía falta, cabe destacar que jamás en mi vida había usado un esmeril, de hecho, les tenía miedo, pero si quería terminar, debía dejar el miedo un rato a un lado y darle con todo al piso.

Well, that's what I did. When I had it in my hands and I didn't even know which disc to use, I went to the nearest hardware store and I asked the guy who was attending me which disc he used for wood that emery and besides that, to explain me how to put the disc. He kindly explained and with that information I was ready to start. The discs were small and came according to the grain, I, as I knew that I had to go down a lot to the joints, I asked for the coarsest one, which was in grain nº40. He told me to give it little by little to see how much the wood would eat me since it was very coarse.

>Bueno, así hice. Al tenerlo en mis manos y no saber ni qué disco usaba, me fui a la ferretería más cercana y le pregunté al que me atendía que cuál disco usaba para madera ese esmeril y además de eso, que me explicara cómo se ponía el disco. Él, amablemente me explicó y con esa información ya estaba lista para empezar. Los discos eran pequeños y venían según el grano, yo, como sabía que tenía que bajarle mucho a las uniones, le pedí el más grueso, que era en grano nº40. Me dijo que le diera poco a poco para ver cuánto me comía la madera ya que era muy grueso.

The day I was to do the work, I put EVERYTHING, really EVERYTHING in the room, and what I couldn't put away like the couch, stove and those types of appliances, I covered with rafts as well as the air conditioning vents. I had no idea the exhorbitant amount of dust this part of the process was going to generate. When I say EXHORBITANT, I mean EXHORBITANT. I had been sanding with the emery board for a while, and when I turned around, the whole apartment was white, I wanted to have a heart attack, but I thought I had been warned about that, and I continued. Thank goodness I had covered my face with glasses and a shirt so as not to swallow or smell the dust.

>El día que haría el trabajo, guardé TODO, realmente TODO en la habitación, y lo que no podía guardar como el sofá, la cocina y ese tipo de artefactos, los cubrí con balsas así como también las rejillas del aire acondicionado. Yo no tenía idea de la cantidad exhorbitante de polvo que iba a generar esta parte del proceso. Cuando digo EXHORBITANTE, es así. Llevaba un rato lijando con el esmeril, y cuando volteo, todo el departamento estaba blanco, quería darme un infarto, pero pensé que ya me habían advertido eso, y continué. Menos mal me había tapado la cara con lentes y una camisa para no tragar ni oler ese polvo.

Regarding the sandpaper, which by the way, cost me $1.5, at first I gave it calmly, and in the second joint I gave it with all my being, I wanted to finish quickly, I needed to finish sanding to stop seeing the apartment immersed in a cloud of dust. That took me about 4 hours, then I passed an orbital sander to smooth the surfaces and finally, the varnish that will be the second part of this post.

Another thing, when I had a lot of separation between woods, what I did was to prepare some sawdust with white glue and made a paste, it is really good, it is like a cream, and I cover the annoying joints, which in the end made the dust from above, fell on the bottom.

Now I'm missing the railings, which I will do later and I will post them so you can see the great idea I have for them.
PS: That day I was so exhausted that I could hardly get up or walk.

>Con respecto a la lija, que por cierto, me costó $1.5, al principio le di con calma, ya en la segunda unión le daba con todo mi ser, quería acabar rápido, necesitaba terminar de lijar para dejar de ver el departamento inmerso en un nube de polvo. En eso tardé aproximadamente unas 4 horas, luego le pasé una lijadora orbital para suavizar las superficies y por último, el barniz que ya será la segunda parte de este post.

>Otra cosa, cuando tenía mucha separación entre maderas, lo que hice fue preparar un poco de aserrín con pegamento blanco y hacía una pasta, es realmente bueno, queda como una crema, y tapo las molestas uniones, que al final hacían que el polvo de arriba, cayera en la parte de abajo.

>Ahora me faltan las barandas, que haré luego y las publicaré para que vean la genial idea que tengo para ellas.
PD: Ese día quedé tan agotada que casi no podía levantarme ni caminar.
