A Blockchain Blogosphere Fork Tale
Once upon a time, an old gal with rose-tinted spectacles excitedly stepped into the Blockchain Blogosphere after her ~~young prince~~ son introduced her to blockchain blogging.
When he said she would be earning Crypto by simply writing blogs and interacting with other bloggers, and that her content could never be lost, she became enamoured.
She finally had the opportunity to store memories forever as there may just be someone who would one day be curious about the lives of his or her predecessors.

The cryptocurrency part remained a mystery, so when she asked how it is 'made' on a 'blockchain', which also was a new word to her, and how it could have value, he sat her down and opened the long explanation with,
>Mother, you have to realize that money is not a real thing.

Well, that put her mind into a spin, she could not grasp those words and found it hard to understand the concept. It however did not dampen her zeal.

She took a dive right into this blockchain world and was happily blogging away, mostly keeping her head in the sand and blissfully unaware of all the drama happening behind the scenes, until she read about a hard fork happening.

That was just around the time her country went into a hard and draconian lockdown.

For those who do not know, Hive was a hard fork of Steem, which was designed to be a 'decentralized' cryptocurrency.
A decentralized blockchain she learned is something that cannot be owned by one person only, therefore decisions cannot be made by an autocratic individual.

In life however there always is a snake in the grass, so to speak, and when a shady despot with a sunny name acquired the app called Steemit, he brought with him darkness.

A decision was made to create a fork of the Steem coin, and Hive was born - a blockchain that would remain decentralized.
A war broke out and the accounts of those witnesses he believed were part of the fork, were seized - said to be around $5 million, as far as the old gal could learn.

However, the hard fork happened at just the right time, as whatever Steem was in everyone's wallets, was mirrored in their new wallets as Hive, and as said earlier, it was around the time of her country's hard lockdown where all businesses except food manufacturers and medical facilities, had to close their doors.

Her BnB's doors remained closed for around ten weeks; a near disaster as this was meant to supplement her retirement income.

She then remembered about her blogging earnings and for the first time learned how to draw from that wallet - obviously getting rid of the Steem first as she was not staying on that platform for sure!

It was amazingly freeing knowing that she could still earn through her blogging while the world stood still, and the Hive hard fork became her knight in shining armour!

One good piece of advice her son gave her in the beginning, was that one needs patience when it comes to Crypto, and to HODL, which she does, but life threw a couple more curveballs, and she then had to dig into her Hive wallet.

Bittersweet indeed, but HODL she will as the wars are over and peace has returned to her world!

*This was written in response to a question by @nickydee, but when my comment would have ended up being the length of a post, I stopped, edited it slightly, hoping this explains the bitter taste left by the takeover of that once beloved platform to other newbies as well.
I found a [blog](https://medium.com/bitcoin-news-today-gambling-news/steem-fork-what-happened-with-hive-steemit-justin-sun-14c1f3d52a94) explaining more about the whole saga for those wanting the full story.*
