Tomato season is finally getting started. We had a spring that was cooler than normal, consequently almost everything has been running a couple of weeks behind schedule. Usually tomatoes start piling up during the end of July but this year not until almost the middle of August.

Other post have shown the tomatoes growing in various stages. Here's one from about a month ago when the green tomatoes started forming in clusters.

About 2 weeks ago, I started having a few smaller tomatoes getting rip providing a hint of what was to come. Since then we have had fresh tomatoes to slice with meals or have on a sandwich but didn't really have that many available. Things have finally changed.

The tomatoes growing in clusters did generate one interesting tomato. In the picture below you see what looks like two tomatoes that have grown together. Pretty odd I think.

Soon there will be a post on what to do with the tomatoes. Growing up in a family that for generations grew gardens and preserved the food from the garden, I had always assumed that everyone knew these things. Being older now I am amazed at some of the questions people ask when they see my small garden. Sometimes we take things for granted, assuming everyone knows this, and many have never had the exposure.
