I first heard about blockchain technology five years ago. The consultants who visited the bank where I worked said that this technology would affect every sector and lead to an economic revolution.

At the point we have reached today, we see that crypto is influential in finance, media, and entertainment. Although crypto applications exist in industries such as information technologies, sports, and real estate, we cannot talk about widespread use yet.

I have two basic observations about blockchain applications: Adaptation is more straightforward in digital-based businesses. And projects that appeal to individuals rather than companies or institutions have the advantage.

The shortest answer to which industries crypto will disrupt would be "all." When we approach the subject in the long term, we have to accept that "all" is the correct answer. Just as the Internet is in every business today, blockchains will become an integral part of every business in the future.

Based on the example of the Internet, we can easily say that the adaptation will be at different speeds in different sectors. We must also consider where crypto will fit in the value chain. While crypto is involved in many stages of the value chain in some industries, its impact on others will be superficial.

Which industries could crypto impact the most in the next five years? Unlike in 2017, there are many applications today. So we can quickly point out some industries. For some other sectors, we need to activate our imagination.

## **Finance & Insurance**

Bitcoin was a financial product that made blockchain technology famous. It performed functions such as buying, storing, transferring, and selling digital money wherever there was an internet connection. Bitcoin was like money 2.0 with these features.

As of 2020, DEFI applications have come into play, and individuals have started to perform many functions that can be expected from a bank, such as deposits, loans, and payments, through dAPPs.

Today, it is not necessary to have a solid imagination to see the potential of crypto in finance. Crypto-based finance can go beyond the functions of banks. The "tokenization of everything" that @taskmaster4450 often mentions in his posts seems to break new ground in finance.

It will not be surprising to see rapid development in the insurance sector, starting with the insurance of risks in the digital environment.

## **Entertainment**

Crypto has already started to play an essential role in activities that people do for fun. Computer games stand out as the leading actor in this regard. Gamers like to have digital assets of the games they play or even the games themselves.

Although the hype about NFT-based art and profile picture collections is over, crypto has become the premier address of digital art.

We know that each film is considered a project in the cinema industry. A producer, a director, and actors work together for a certain period to create the motion picture. A token may well represent each movie, and enthusiasts of that genre can buy the token to finance the film.


## **Sport**

Fan tokens issued by major clubs stand out as the primary crypto application in sports. Football clubs handle the way fan tokens is narrow in scope. A model in which ownership of sports clubs is transferred wholly or partially to fans through issued tokens would be much more effective.

The Splinterlands team recently announced their collaboration with the MLS Soccer association. Genesis League Soccer, the card-based play-to-earn game, could be a breakthrough in sports.

## **Media**

The issue of media ownership has long been one of the critical agenda items in politics because the media has a vital role in determining social trends.

Social media, which has entered our lives since the 2000s, has become more critical. And now, we are in the process of disrupting social media with Web3 media. Hive, which encourages content producers to buy coins of relevant infrastructure, is a well-known example in this field. As participation in Hive increases, the income of content producers will increase. This situation will encourage the production of higher-quality content.

Having collective ownership of the media, which has a social function, will be beneficial for preventing censorship and ensuring impartiality. We may see radical transformations in this digital area that appeal to individuals in the coming period.

## **Real Estate**

Real estate accounts for about half of the world's wealth. Therefore, real estate is a financially dominant industry.

Real estate can be easily represented on the blockchain. Real estate on crypto infrastructures can be quickly sold by dividing it into shares. On the other hand, land registry records are crucial pillars ensuring states' legitimacy. Therefore, I do not think that the states will look forward to decentralized solutions in this regard.

The plots for sale on games or metaverses may come into use shortly. Various DEFI mechanisms are currently built on NFT-based land plots. As technologies related to 3D virtual worlds develop, the use of these plots will also begin.

## **Information technologies**

Projects for decentralizing the Internet in the IT field come to the fore. Currently, many projects are being carried out to decentralize internet access, storage, processing power, and data management.

SPK Network, developed on Hive, is one of the projects operating in the field of decentralized storage.

## **Conclusion**

The day-to-day developments can push people to extremes regarding the potential of crypto. During the hype in 2017, blockchain technology was talked about as if it were a magic solution. Moreover, very few of today's practical applications were in effect then.

Today, we know that crypto adoption will take a long time. On the other hand, we witnessed the emergence of many innovations that we did not even imagine in 2017. We know that development in technology-based businesses is exponential. And exponential growth can lead to surprising outcomes, as we witnessed in last year's bull season. I do not doubt that we will see many exciting innovations in the coming years.
