A Tale of Two Talents: Choosing Between Multilingualism and Musical Versatility
<div class="text-justify">

There are prospects to learning various aspects of a certain field, such as being able to speak multiple languages, which gives one a higher edge in communication, and being able to play multiple musical instruments, which can help one be more versatile in creating music. However, if something out-of-the-ordinary could happen and one could pick either of the two, what would that be?

Firstly, I do play musical instruments. I play the guitar, and I sing. So, my most obvious choice would be to be able to play multiple instruments, but it really isn't so straightforward in this case. I do love to make music and listen to it too. But then, looking at the other side of the coin, I might as well want to weigh my options properly, examine which one would be most beneficial to me — as that is also imperative— and fulfill me as well.

Where I am from, there are many people from different tribes with different dialects. Although the majority of us speak the English language and also broken English (pidgin), there are still ethnic differences that affect our relationships with one another. For example, there are certain ways to relate to Yoruba people so that one can effectively communicate with them. There can be so much depth in connecting with Yoruba people by just communicating with them in their language.

If I were to walk into a shop owned by a Yoruba man or woman and I wanted to strike a good bargain, it wouldn't be as efficient as it could have been by speaking in Yoruba as if I were to communicate in English. Saying something like, "Mommy, you know I am a son to you. "Please accept my offer for this product, ma," in Yoruba hits very differently as opposed to saying that in plain English, and one would have a higher chance of nailing the bargain.

This idea transcends many other aspects of life. It could be making friends or pleading for a cause—just name it. And it applies to every other tribe, nation, or country. And so, it is easier to communicate ideas and bring plans to fruition if one is just able to communicate with anybody.

On the other hand, being able to play multiple musical instruments has its perks too. And as a person who loves music, the idea of being more versatile in music and being more creative piques my interest very much.

Although the concept of music is more or less the same across the countless musical instruments there are, the principles are very much the same, as long as the laws of physics are the same. And as long as the music is good to some degree, it may very well be enjoyed and admired.

One thing about being able to play any instrument at all and being dexterous at it is that one can communicate emotions and instill them in the listeners as well as the musician. And it is all very admirable too.

In any case where the need for a certain musical instrumentalist arises, one can rise to the occasion as one would be able to deliver in that aspect, thereby making one more involved in musical endeavors and surely paving the way for more occupational benefits.

And also, with the ability to play many instruments, I could, you know, serenade my spouse with music in different styles and sounds, and she would have even more reason to fall in love with me every time. That is something, innit?

All in all, both of them pose interesting benefits. But for me, the benefits of being able to communicate in multiple languages seem to outweigh the ability to play multiple instruments, as much as I love music. The ability to speak multiple languages will do very well in improving my relationships with people on a personal level, as well as on a professional level. So, it is being able to speak multiple languages.
