Patricia told Damilola that she needs to write her heart out and come along with it when she visits next.

This is the last stage of healing. Patricia, Damilola’s counselor and friend, said frankly that she still abores something from the past.

Damilola asked, Who and what am I to write to or write about?

Patricia looked dead serious this time around, putting aside her friendship with Damilola and embodying the work ethnic and her profession.

Good question for that mindset, Damilola, it is a growth one, she complimented her and continued;

‘Write a letter to your past self and the present self illustrating the power of hindsight in your life and what to do if given a chance to go back to the past to correct the outcome or do things differently, ’ she concluded.

Damilola answered, grumbling, saying, Okay, okay. I will try if you insist it is necessary.

She stood up, hugged her friend and counselor Patricia, and left for her home with a goodbye.

Getting home, Damilola took a shower and decided to call the shots once, as procrastination is one of the shadows she had treated lately with Patricia.

She picked up her favorite purple inked pen and a foolscap shit of paper from the drawer of her writing table and sat carefully putting them on the table.

She inhaled her breath deeply and exhaled it continuously, then she picked up her pen and started writing.

May 17th, 2025,

Dear Power of Hindsight,

Another day is being born today, a day that will come next year using the same date, but days significant can't be the same, even though DEJA VU affirms.

I write to you, my past self and my present self, which is my highest self, for complementarity, on having no regrets about the power of hindsight in my life.

I remember when I was discussing with a friend, Dolapo, many years ago while talking about my future career.

What do you want to be, she asked jokingly, and I replied, a programmer Then she continued, Why did you choose such a career and I answered, I was motivated to be a programmer just because I wanted to work from home and make millions just like Miss Carolyn and Uncle Jose.

We both laughed, knowing it was true, as we were taught from home to graduate and work somewhere, but these two served as an eye opener for us.

Dolapo also wanted to work from home, too, but as a freelancer who specializes in writing.

Normally, walking through this so-called career is challenging, stressful, and energy-consuming, but here I am today, as what motivates me to be a programmer never changes, which is working from home, but the career has been attained, and even more than that.

For my past self, I compliment you for your resilience, strictness to value, and undying behavioral attitude, even though the shadows of fear, self-limitations, blurred vision, bad habits, and people pleasing crept in to alter your personality.

Without you, I won't be where I am today. “ I am talking about the power of hindsight.”

I have no plans to go to the past to re-correct or do something different, and why is that?

It is as simple as if I were asked to contrast my past and my present.

I will say, it is obvious I was inexperienced, wild with no direction then, which made me do all sorts of different things and walk in all directions like a bird that flew without its eyes.

I appreciate the present time, my best self who learned from the past to be experienced for the present, who is aware to know that happiness is within and peace is direction on its own.

And for the loss, I attained moving up here. A native sub-standard English we commonly use here states' wey tin do lost don lost’, which means what is lost is lost and can't be found, so I say ‘ life doesn't happen to you, it happens for you’.

For the people in my past life who I lost or lost me, and for the opportunities I lost or which lost me. All I know is that what is mine won't get lost, and if it gets lost, it's never mine, so I wish all the best for you all.

Now I write to complement the present time, which is my highest self; I write to celebrate this day, which serves the present moment.

I honour now with profound gratitude, and why is that, if I may ask myself?

I simply say that many years ago, some people and I ran the race of life, and today, they are no more.

Rest on Dolapo....a dear friend….I miss you…

I am celebrating a day of breathing life and change, which is essential.

That is why I laughed at my brother in our last interaction who said, Damilola, is this where you should be and I answered why not, I am at present in the present moment and a perfect timing for the highest self, then I advised him to go for therapy just has I have done.

So, for the power of hindsight, the one that serves as fire that burns gold to the finest, and also like that earthquake that pops out the diamond from the soil, is like a significance of ‘ tap to wake’.

Waking us from sleeping on it, realizing it, and being aware of it.

And what is "it”? The “it” is the potential we need to harness in us.

For I concluded my letter and dropped my pen here so to say, if I have to go to the past to re-correct the outcome or do things differently, I will not be purposefully driven and may have lost myself.

So I always digest a tale that says’ what doesn't kill you makes you stronger and allows you to appreciate life through pain’

Looking at the present time and celebrating the present moment, I have no regrets about the power of hindsight in my life journey.

Best wishes
Damilola.

She stopped feeling dizzy, kept the letter, and went to bed.

The second day after reading it to Patricia, she was very proud of her friend and client, Damilola, who did what was expected.

Patricia said, Friend, the counseling section is over for now.

You can only call me or visit if something triggered you, as growth is continuous, as you said in your letter.

They both laughed, went for lunch, and departed from there.

Thanks for reading through and remain blessed.
