I gave Far Cry 5 another chance then quickly uninstalled it
One of the games I've had installed on my PC for a very long time is Far Cry 5. I quit this game due to boredom from the repetitive formula and weak story sometime during summer of last year. I can see from my post history that I posted about this game in June of 2021 and I probably quit playing it around a week or two later.

The reason why I didn't uninstall it back then was because it's kinda hard for me to accept giving up on a game. I really don't like leaving games unfinished so I kept the game around. A few days ago I decided to finally take the dust off it and give it another go. Spoiler alert: I still don't like it.

# Benchmark test

When I loaded up the game the first thing I did was go into the settings and adjust the video settings. Since last time I played this game I've upgraded my GTX 1070 ta a RTX 3070 Ti. I changed the settings from whatever my custom settings were back then directly to ultra and ran a benchmark test that the game has built in.

It performed fairly well with 105 FPS on average but with a few dips during action heavy scenes. The lowest amount of FPS I got was 80 but that was mostly a dip and not anything consistent. During a calm look over the water I managed to pull 143 FPS, only 1 frame away from the max. I decided to keep the settings at ultra and dive into the game.

# How do I play this game

Having been away from the game for a full year it as quite natural for me to not remember much of the game. I had to get acquainted with the controllers again as well as trying to catch up with the story. The controllers settles in relatively fast while the story took some brain digging to get back up to speed on.

When I left off back in June I was close to finishing the second region of the game and taking down Jacob, one of the big bosses in the game. I decided I would at least go and do that alongside any side missions and challenges I found along the way.

I played for about two hours and I didn't really feel any excitement at all. The side missions were still bland and the story was still weak. No matter what mission you do you're only killing people to clear a camp, loot it then move on to the next camp. There's some fun vehicle challenges and skydiving challenges but they don't really make up for the lacking gameplay.

After taking down Jacob, in a very underwhelming showdown, and clearing out this second region I decided to just call it. I see no reason to keep on forcing myself to play this game when I clearly don't enjoy it. I don't regret giving the game another chance though. At least now I'm 100% sure I won't be completing this game ever.

It's also kinda the nail in the coffin for me. I had this same experience with Far Cry 3 and 4. The game is fun for a few hours but then turns into a repetitive grind. Not my jam.

I've now uninstalled and will be moving on to greener pastures. I'm thinking that after I finish up Elden Ring I'm gonna go back to God of War to 100% that game which I didn't get around to before Elden Ring dropped.
