0.000 HBDAmazing Nature thematic challenge - surprise! surprise!
This post goes for #AmazingNature Thematic Challenge. The weekly theme was: [**Surprise.**](https://peakd.com/hive-127788/@hive-127788/amazing-nature-contest-thematic-challenge-3721) Nice one! Gives a lot of room for... surprise post, hehe ;) As soon as I have read the prompt, I considered a possible subject to write about. An amazing subject: fungi. You know, they are everywhere... they can pop-up anytime when you dont await them.. and _where_ you dont await them. <div class="pull-left"> <p>So, I thought it would be it. A case from last summer immediately came to my mind: I dug a 1,5 meter pit for future usage as immediately came to my mind: I dug a hole for future use as a cesspool (a sump for feces) - it turned out to be an excellent piece of digging art! and a deadly frog and snail trap, I must admit. The pit is still empty - we haven't started using it yet. But when I dug it up, we (my daughter and I) periodically went to admire the pit and save the caught frogs.</p></div><div class="pull-left"> <p>Мне в голову моментально пришел случай с прошлого лета: я выкопал яму для выгребной ямы - вышло отличное произведения копательского искусства (и смертельная ловушка для лягушек и улиток, признаю). Яма пока пустует - мы еще не начали ее использовать. Но когда я ее выкопал, я и дочка периодически ходили любоваться ямой и спасать пойманных лягушек.</p></div> ----- <div class="pull-left"> <p>You can imagine our surprise when all of a sudden .... Yes, yes! Exactly so: on the side wall of the pit, at a depth of about half a meter, small white sprouts appeared. Of course, it turned out to be mushrooms! We went to the pit twice a day, to watch their growth ... they grew fast enough - at first perpendicular to the ground (vertical), that is, sideways, and then turned their hats towards the sun ... We were terribly interested in who exactly we have here appeared and grew "self-seeding". When the mushrooms reached a large size, it turned out it were Brown Rim-rolls (Paxillus involutus),- the mushroom is not poisonous, but bad, it is not recommended for harvesting. It's a pity! we could harvest a good harvest, enough for one meal.</p></div><div class="pull-left"> <p>Можете себе представить наше удивление, когда вдруг.... могли бы собрать урожай, достаточный для одного обеда.</p></div> ----- <div class="pull-left"> <p>This story should have been illustrated with a photo, but - I admit it - I took photos, but they all turned out to be unsuccessful ... it turned out to be quite difficult to take a good photo in a narrow and dark hole with a macro lens.</p></div><div class="pull-left"> <p>Этот рассказ следовало бы проиллюстрировать фото, но - я признаю это - я сделал фотографии, но все они получились малоудачными... оказалось достаточно непросто сделать хорошее фото в узкой и темной яме при помощи макро-теле объектива. </p></div> ----- <div class="pull-left"> <p>By the way, this is far from the only surprise mushroom find: in August 2021, the mushrooms visited us again, coming in large numbers directly to our garden - and it were not some brown roll-rims, but the first-grade Porcini mushroom!</p></div><div class="pull-left"> <p>Кстати, это далеко не единственная грибная сюрпризная находка! В августе 2021 года грибы посетили нас еще раз, придя в большом количестве прямо на наш огород - и это были не какие то занюханные свинушки, а самые что ни на есть первоклассные белые!</p></div> ----- <div class="pull-left"> <p>Yes, the photo above does not look like an exemplary garden bed - it is overgrown with moss enough and no one is weeding it, that's true. But nevertheless, this is not a forest, this is our vegetable garden, and this is our strawberry garden! On which four excellent porcini mushrooms suddenly grew. (And a dozen more grew up nearby). It's just that there is a large, excellent oak growing on the edge of the garden - and, obviously, this tree is very popular with the mycelium of many mushrooms.</p></div> <div class="pull-left"> <p>Да, фото выше не выглядит как образцовая грядка - она достаточно сильно заросла мхом и никто ее не пропалывает, все правда. Но тем не менее - это не лес, это наш огород, и это наша клубничная грядка! На которой внезапно выросли четыре отличнейших белых гриба. (И еще дюжина выросли рядом). Просто на краю грядки растет большой отличный дуб - и, очевидно, это дерево очень нравится мицелию многих грибов.</p></div> ----- <table class="wp-block-table"><tbody><tr> <td>location:</td> <td>St.Petersburg, Russia</td> <td>August 2021</td> <td>natural lighting</td></tr> <tr> <td>camera/lens:</td> <td>Canon 5D</td> <td>Sigma 150mm</td> <td>raw-conv.</td></tr> </tbody></table> I hope you enjoyed the story. Thanks for the visit, and next time! ---------------- <center>[](https://peakd.com/c/hive-127788) </center>
