A Day Shopping For An NFT Shoe In The Metaverse

I have been hoping to get an NFT sneaker on the move to earn platform,STEPN, for a while now. I walk around a lot and it seems like a good idea to monetize earning from my walking. According to my calculation, buying the cheapest sneakers gives you the chance of earning at least 2.7 GST. GST is the native token for the move to earn,STEPN, you earn GST for walking, running or jogging. When I discovered STEPN a month ago, the value of 1 GST was $4, so daily gain is $10.8 but you have to pay 0.9 GST daily to repair your shoe so your net income daily is $7.

Unfortunately the dip affected everything and the Value of 1 GST is currently $2.78 making your daily earning to be $4.86. Which according to my calculation, isn’t a bad idea, if the price of GST remains at $2.78 that would be $4.86 X 30 days = $145 of monthly income just for walking. Nah, this sounded too good to be true but I wanted to try it out and see how it would go. But unfortunately I couldn’t afford 12 SOL, thank goodness that the value of SOLANA has dipped to $45 all the way from $60 the last time I checked. I woke up this morning and saw the value of an NFT shoe to be 8 SOL, all the way from 12 SOL it’s worth 8 SOL now, wonderful. I knew I wanted to buy ASAP but I still couldn’t afford it, the value of the shoe kept on dropping, dropped from 8 SOL to 6 SOL in less than 3 hours.

This felt like the right time to buy a shoe, I didn’t mind risking 6 SOL to get these shoes because you earn from walking, jogging and running. I do that everyday when I go to the gym, so why not earn while doing it. So I sold some of my crypto assets, and I was ready to buy some STEPN NFT shoes, this felt like the right opportunity. I bought 8 SOL, for a blockchain network that works based on proof of history and expected to be extremely fast, the network seemed to be congested. I was disappointed because the SOLANA blockchain was supposed to be extremely scalable, this means that I would have to wait for some hours before my 6 SOL gets to my STEPN wallet.

I was a little bit indifferent about sending 6 SOL, because while waiting, the price dropped to 4.3 SOL which got scary because if the price can drop from 8 SOL to 4.3 SOL, what will stop it from dropping to 1 SOL. But then, I needed to buy this NFT shoe at 4.3 SOL. The STEPN app has a Binance Wallet, that lets you buy some of the shoes in BNB, BNB network wasn’t congested so I thought sending BNB to the STEPN BNB address and swapping the BNB to GMT and GMT to Solana was the best idea. Little did I know that they are in different chain network and it wouldn’t work that way. Took me over 1 hour 30 minutes to try, failed and learnt my lesson.

I had to send the BNB back to Binance, converted it to SOL was ready to buy the shoe, but unfortunately the SOL network on Binance was still congested. I decided to convert the BNB to XRP because of low network fees and sent it to my huobi wallet, converted it to SOL and tried sending it to my STEPN wallet. By the time it got to my wallet, the floor price had increase to 7.1 SOL, had to do an extra transfer and finally got the STEPN NFT shoe.

Here is my shoe and here is the amount of GST I earned from walking for 10 minutes.
