Steem Basic Income is a social experiment to bring a basic income to as many Steemians as possible. Members join by sponsoring others into the program. Steem Basic Income is delivered through providing regular upvotes to member content.

## Contests, Giveaways and Raffles!

It’s time for the weekend contest update. We have a huge new contest in our featured section, so be sure to check that out. And in addition to the contests listed below, there are often many daily contests posted on our Discord channel. These usually aren’t included because by the time the post is out many of them will expire (they run 24 hours or less). 

So if you’re really looking to grow your SBI shares, get on our discord and take some time going through the contest channel each day. 

If you want your contest listed, the best way to get noticed is to post it in the contest channel in the SBI Discord server. 
 
Please try to think about your submissions and reward these great hosts with quality submissions. If you enjoy somebody’s contest format, check their feed for more, and follow them so you don’t have to wait for our listing to come out!

We have a special featured contest this week that I am thrilled to share with you. That’s partly because I’m part of the team that worked to make it a reality, but mostly because I think it will be amazing fun for Steemians everywhere. Plus, there are great prizes!

The Quest In The Realms (QITR) is a unique playable format which combines a multiple-endings adventure with a treasure hunt. The result is a contest where you will try to survive through a 55 episodes story and, at the same time, get your boozy old hands on a treasure chest of 30 STEEM!
The Bananafish family wants to make this event become a true party and a unique opportunity to reward as many steemians as possible!

And this is where an additional 30 @steembasicincome shares pot comes in! We will distribute one or more SBI shares to the participants that played the adventure, sending us the QITR solution, and to those with the best comments to the episodes!

Quite a few industrious Steemians run contests regularly. Here is a list of the ones we know about at the moment. All of these have been running for months so you can count on their posted schedule.

The folks over at @freewritehouse run three contests each week. All of them are designed to encourage community engagement and highlight other's work. **Recommend your Favorite Freewrite Poem** is a poetry version of the Favorite Freewrite contest and it runs every Friday. Make a comment about a freewrite poem you loved and you could win SBI units. But be quick! When Friday is over, so is the contest - until the next week that is.

**We-Write** is a new challenge where two writers create a single story using the freewrite prompt. It runs every other Wednesday with a prize of 4 SBI divided among winners.

Finish the Story Contest is run by @f3nix via the @bananafish account which now hosts the contest which runs every Wednesday. He posts the beginning of a story, and you finish it. Then you post your complete story for everyone to read. One of the prizes is SBI units. The important thing to know about this contest is that it's an ongoing creativity workshop, so if you miss one deadline you can participate in the next.

Mizu No Oto is founded on the belief that every image has a haiku.  It’s an @bananafish contest curated by @marcoriccardi, a real haijin (haiku poet) and it's a great occasion to learn this form of poetry.

## How to get on the recurring contest list

Do you run a regular contest that you’d like to see in our recurring contest section? We have some simple criteria you need to have to be included:

-   SBI units must be part of the prizes given out.
-   Contest needs to be running 5 weeks or 10 contests on a consistent schedule, whichever comes first.

If you think your contest qualifies let us know in the comments or on our Discord channel and we’ll check it out.
  

## Enrollment
If you want to get involved, or to increase the basic income that you receive, enrollment is pretty straightforward:

Just send 1 STEEM to @steembasicincome. Include the name of a Steemian to sponsor in the transaction memo (preceded by @). You and the person you sponsor will each receive 1 unit in the program. You can sponsor *any* active Steemian, it does not have to be a current member.

The official currency for enrollment is STEEM. If we choose to accept SBD without refunding it, you do *not* receive extra value for it.

Enrollments are processed automatically every 144 minutes. Confirmation transactions are still manual and typically are sent within 2-3 days. Even if you have not received a welcome transaction, you can check your status using `!sbi status`.
