What I miss most about Reddit

I've always been a big Reddit user, I don't use it as much lately but I still try to check it from time to time. There are a few things I really miss that just doesn't work on Steemit but I wish did.

On Steemit, every interaction is tied to a reward, so everything has to have meaning and represent a certain level of quality or community value. If you spend five seconds looking at **New** we know that isn't the case, but it is the goal.

One thing I use Reddit for is asking questions about anything I am running into. This could be Machine Learning, Minecraft, Home Theatre, Programming, or even Home Repair. 75% of the time it works every time. I almost always get a discussion going, I may not always get the answer I'm looking for, but I can ask without fear of it not being considered something of value. I can post about something other than Travel, Food, Crypto, Steemit and get an answer as well. While Steemit has a lot people interested in those niche, a lot of other topics are like being a Red headed step child.

If I post a question as an long time Reddit user or a brand new user, I can almost always expect a response and my voice heard. This is largely due to the communities developed by the **subreddits** with dedicated moderators and strict on topic rules. I really hope when Steemit Inc releases communities, it helps this sort of interaction thrive. The idea that every post/comment has a reward attached to it and is weighed against it makes this type of interaction virtually impossible.

Can you imagine the response if I posted something like this on Steemit?

First off, it would probably get $1-50 post reward, but not a single person who have a clue what I am talking about nor would I get an answer.

This brings me to another thing I miss about Reddit. If I asked this question, not only would I not have to worry about people not considering it valuable to the platform, I'd likely get 1-50 responses and a have a good discussion going with people interested in the niche (Minecraft) I am talking about. This is partially due to the fact Steemit is still young, but it also is because it is very focused on certain topics that are rewarded by whales and people with higher votes, which tends to direct the type of conversations that go on here.

The last thing, and the one that gave me the idea of this post is my favorite subreddit /r/shittyreactiongifs. This subreddit is a bit stupid and many times fails to deliver, but when it does it is something wonderful.

The subreddit is the hardcore and more complex version of MRW (My reaction when). MRW is a gif that is an expression of some reaction to something in life. A lot of times they are dumb, but many are funny.

These can be funny at times, but /r/shittyreactiongifs takes it to a whole new level. They are more like a visual pun, and damn it, I love puns.

Some recent front page /r/shittyreactiongifs posts today

### MRW I'm watching a public execution but the axeman can't figure out where to strike the prisoner, and is looking to me for a hint.

I am really excited to see what #Communities brings to Steemit, and really hopes it encourages more of these types of engagement. I think there is a lot of value to them, even if it isn't financial.
