While I've done more than my fair share of complaining about the weather on Wednesdays for weeks now, I have to say that this week more than made up for all the gloomy, and sunny-but-chilly walks as of late. In fact, just after I headed outside, I bumped into my landlady who was saying the same thing. Even the swarms of pesky [Black Flies](https://downeast.com/travel-outdoors/blackfly-survival-guide/) (who arrived right on schedule after Mother's Day) couldn't ruin the gorgeousness of the warm air, gentle breeze, and sunny sky.

In fact, it was so nice out, I decided to meander down our driveway as well, rather than just wander in the yard, to see if there were any signs of the [Jack-in-the-pulpit](https://peakd.com/wednesdaywalk/@traciyork/followup-to-last-month-s-wednesdaywalk-a-meander-down-my-driveway) or [the Lady Slippers](https://peakd.com/hive-106444/@traciyork/theladyslipperandthegoldfinches-esti77s32dis2ikvlfdv) (spoiler - not yet). And while it's not Wednesday any more (no one tell @tattoodjay...lol), I enjoyed myself so much I decided I still had to share the photos, even though I missed the actual day.

Before I get to the pictures and as always, a quick shout out to Wednesday Walk host, @tattoodjay - be sure to hop over and take a peek at his latest, [Wednesday Walk A walk on the trail to....](https://peakd.com/hive-155530/@tattoodjay/draft-wednesday-walk-a-walk-on-the-trail-to)where? You'll have to click the link to find out!๐Ÿ˜‚

As for these photos, as per my usual FYI - these were taken in the yard of my Durham, NH home with <a href="https://amzn.to/2GFODL6" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">my Nikon</a>, also using <a href="http://amzn.to/1V3D3ZX" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">my tripod</a>. All were resized, then cleaned up a bit with <a href="https://www.picmonkey.com" rel="noopener" target="_blank">PicMonkey</a> - mostly the exposure and sharpness, but with a few other tweaks like <a href="https://www.adobe.com/creativecloud/photography/hub/guides/how-to-create-vignette-effect.html" rel="noopener" target="_blank">vignette filters</a> for the corners here and there.

In my first [whiny Wednesday Walk post last month](https://peakd.com/hive-155530/@traciyork/a-wicked-whiny-wednesday-walk), I mentioned how amazing it was to see this tree sprouting up from a cracked granite boulder. While it's no less amazing, now that the "tree" is blossoming, I've realized it's not actually a tree, it's a bush....

&nbsp;
&nbsp;

![2. Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/traciyork/23wqnapw9Xv8qfau4eTLanbG7SuBwECswxGvUZmse4BDv8AqxPduPcUPz1Yyfv2UtYr3s.jpg)2. ... specifically a lilac bush. Although to be fair, there is a such thing as [lilac trees](https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/shrubs/lilac/is-lilac-a-tree-or-a-shrub.htm) too.

&nbsp;
&nbsp;

![3. Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/traciyork/23yJGU95gns5D78phpy6awVBhnHVksXvHet6aXUrp5gQLNeptTX8nCwi2dGgMBJsZt4C5.jpg)3. The daffodil blooms are already almost gone by.

&nbsp;
&nbsp;

![4. Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/traciyork/EokbA9w8fF51hWJnjwQ6k8MBttngJsCsYFweoK92jC3Z52eA26FMYX1ynBkef41aNe8.jpg)4. But there are still a few beauties hanging on.

&nbsp;
&nbsp;

![5. Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/traciyork/23wMaStS3LHS4dB2QoAPrT9kDRz71kSLJMJdNZHArQM9Jx9Q4DHx6pEWdNUZyCDePUK3n.jpg)5. On the other hand, the violets (both purple and white) are popping up all over the place.

&nbsp;
&nbsp;

![6. Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/traciyork/EokdX61i6VCSnXozg6zYD1DwU3UBtMvh5je7DgQqzMCRj65HmNSkmC1jnTune6mJ9qT.jpg)6. As I said at the top of the post, I wandered down the driveway to see if I could spot either Jack or some lady slippers. They were no-shows, but I discovered there are tons of [fiddleheads](https://www.nhpr.org/environment/2013-05-09/fiddleheads-tasty-forest-secrets) popping up!

&nbsp;
&nbsp;

![7. Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/traciyork/EoEr1kz77bLwhSJ2UC9i5Zd3xuji1ejhQTeAfEcMh6hbsNggT2uDWe1F3ujhr9j3Teh.jpg)7. Given how popular (and somewhat scarce) these beauties are, I really should figure out how to harvest & use them.

&nbsp;
&nbsp;

![8. Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/traciyork/EoeERLUXtdu4vsCxWoYZgrJwE5octPVLpofr5RG1FzsrU1BqcNrFkgivP4Rz3P6iqd3.jpg)8. But for the moment, I've only harvested these shots (and for some reason, this one is giving me wicked bird vibes...lol).

&nbsp;
&nbsp;

![9. Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/traciyork/EowEbEAPK4r1wyREQp3x9LPYHBuHCFTX6Ev4gATrTLqARisjdiChPw5Gt8JKReoMEQ8.jpg)9. My eldest (who is still recovering from her surgery slowly but surely) mentioned how it almost looks like fall outside, with the red blossoms on some of the trees.

&nbsp;
&nbsp;

![10. Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk(1).jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/traciyork/23wgMdqmQDnbWYt9oFRGjuU8YU1zTpgi3H5FQCijLpTz2zgJ5Bctf31fr6hLnV7SfY1qi.jpg)10. Speaking of blossoms, there are also lots of [wood anemones](https://florafinder.org/Species/Anemone_quinquefolia.php) blooming now, and I didn't realize until I found that link I used for the name that they are part of the buttercup family. I shouldn't be surprised though, because they do have wicked buttercup vibes.

&nbsp;
&nbsp;

![11. Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/traciyork/Eoc8YpZKH7y33wPkAtpeomnK7ZWpJTqgibNJkKY7thU5Cd9Y5fzog8ZbzeL4U7yywZS.jpg)11. Not sure what family these [Bluets](https://florafinder.org/Species/Houstonia_caerulea.php) (same website doesn't mention it for these flowers) come from, but their bright yellow centers remind me a little of buttercups as well. I'm happy to see there are tons of them blooming this year.

&nbsp;
&nbsp;

![12. Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/traciyork/Ep1WufPXknzZaoRd7XxNiTAvhfjnhUnWBf7YQjFXc89zH5aTcNT6qFhcAq6F52NfK9n.jpg)12. What's no longer blooming though is our landlady's <a href="https://homeguides.sfgate.com/information-dwarf-weeping-cherry-trees-60767.html" rel="noopener" target="_blank">Dwarf Weeping Cherry Tree</a>. Every year the flowers appear and disappear pretty fast, but given how rough a time it had last year with mites and such, I'm amazed it looks as good as it does.

&nbsp;
&nbsp;

![13. A Wicked Whiny Wednesday Walk.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/traciyork/EoyQuNx6aV9u6AziaJSLukx6x28YHLAAk8GiG9TE5nK1QCA7N8XuZaoxtPpSk6XRriB.jpg)12a. For comparison, here's one of the shots I took just over a month ago (on April 6th, 2022) - I'd say it did very well this year after all!

&nbsp;
&nbsp;

![13. Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/traciyork/EpxpLDgB2wgZCkQ7UPTs1Jfz7iLzRAD55Fc1yuJz7gahnmPsVyL9f26DwsZkn1NBQVn.jpg)13. There's even still one last bloom hanging on.

&nbsp;
&nbsp;

![14. Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/traciyork/Ep5nBFDPUfo69t7Su9GtagUr8Kk1iRWitnZJww7ETJGec3bhkcXHSe34LGkvQDpvhDP.jpg)14. I wish I could somehow share how amazing our yard smells right now, with the lilac bushes starting to bloom. This one is on the other side of the yard from the one growing out of the boulder (although you can see more stones in the background).

&nbsp;
&nbsp;

![15. Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/traciyork/EoeEyLR2LQGskFFx8k5Qi5DoCvgkRVvp1NJ2xk3mKqqEaUaRhctLVko3Nv8Vtp636D9.jpg)15. It will be even more incredible when all these buds are fully blooming.

&nbsp;
&nbsp;

![16. Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/traciyork/Eoc5yxaqTjFWXpFhfdU2xjsRYqsL3NjGwvUs2L3Qyfvr2XeqQJjUaTeoLWFbWJU133S.jpg)16. Not too far from that lilac bush are bunches of pretty little purple flowers, growing around some of the stones.

&nbsp;
&nbsp;

![17. Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/traciyork/23vhsRtxWRCsFDP1xM1JiSG2YNZzGRmDnNurS2p5EbwPX7L5TLxMBnqLwfnFsmVkCjCyB.jpg)17. The closet match I could find is [ common henbit](https://gobotany.nativeplanttrust.org/species/lamium/amplexicaule/) but I don't think there's anything "common" about these little beauties.

&nbsp;
&nbsp;

![18. Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/traciyork/23wC9vQZF1DfSKtuknoK8M4GfG5srdSM4gaJSZdm6jS2Jt5PQCejSsJnDgxFJcGWmRFRS.jpg)18. And yes, while dandelions are also considered ~~wicked pesky invasive weeds~~ common, I really love how magically bright and sunny they look.

&nbsp;
&nbsp;

![19. Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/traciyork/Eo6KxXebuXptQtvzvkjg26fMs6q5eSp8eekMkjU1naKojAqjSatVy95AqpoDoFVesFx.jpg)19. They look even more magical after they've gone to seed...

&nbsp;
&nbsp;

![20. Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/traciyork/EqUbvqASzL9jYr4ZKZPZjKtsFXxkj5CcDPp839QdsUrETkhoCJPqFvvoEhZq6dStXkh.jpg)20. ... I get the feeling, given how prolific they are this year, that you'll be seeing lots of shots like this in the coming weeks.

&nbsp;
&nbsp;

<h2>Happy Wednesday Walking (early for next week, lol!) everyone!</h2>
