Nach der chaotischen Twitter-Übernahme von Elon Musk, gibt es jetzt eine wahre Inflation von Twitter-ähnlichen Social Media.

Threads, Nostr, Mastadon, Inleo, Hive natürlich und jetzt das vom ehemaligen Twitter-CEO Jack Dorsey gegründete Bluesky.

@nerdtopiade war so nett und hat mir vor einiger Zeit einen Invite-Code geschickt, hab mir bsky kurz angeschaut, mir meinen Username gesichert, dann aber nicht mehr viel gemacht.

Seit letzter Woche wurden die Anmeldungen auf bsky geöffnet, d.h. man kann sich jetzt ohne Invite-Code anmelden, was bsky in den ersten Tagen 1 Million neue User gebracht hat.

Das Besondere an bsky ist der dezentrale Ansatz und viele Dinge davon erinnern mich natürlich stark an Hive.

Zentral dafür ist das AT-Protokoll, das es ermöglicht, dezentrale Social-Apps und Filter-Algorithmen (eigene Feeds) für bsky zu erstellen.

So dezentral und zensur-resistent wie Hive ist bsky damit aber nicht. Die unabhängigen bsky-Apps existieren auch noch nicht.

Jeder bsky-User kann mit ein bisschen Coding-Erfahrung einen eigenen Feed zum Beispiel zu einem Thema erstellen und die Benutzer können dann diese Feeds abonnieren. Feeds gibt es zum Beispiel für Krypto-Themen, Science oder Katzenfotos.

Das ist eine ganz coole Idee, um das Algo-Problem von Social Media zu lösen, wo die Plattform mit einem geheimen Algo die User-Feeds kuratiert und so viel Macht bekommt,  was User sehen oder nicht sehen. Unliebsame Postings können dann zum Beispiel heimlich ausgeblendet werden (Shadow Banning) oder man muss zahlen, um überhaupt gesehen zu werden (X Premium).

Die Vision wäre weiters, dass man sich nur bei einer Microblogging-Plattform anmelden muss, aber trotzdem mit allen Usern aller Plattformen vernetzt ist.

Das wäre die Utopie, wird aber meiner Meinung nach alleine wegen unterschiedlichen Firmeninteressen wahrscheinlich nicht passieren.

Das Problem ist auch, dass jedes neue Projekt wie Nostr oder bsky wieder sein eigenes offenes Protokoll etablieren möchte, anstatt auf einen gemeinsamen Standard zu setzen.

Was sagt ihr zu bsky? Habt ihr es schon getestet? Hat sich Jack Dorsey von Hive inspirieren lassen?

After the chaotic Twitter takeover by Elon Musk, there is now a veritable inflation of Twitter-like social media.

Threads, Nostr, Mastadon, Inleo, Hive of course and now Bluesky, founded by former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey.

@nerdtopiade was nice enough to send me an invite code a while ago, I had a quick look at bsky, got my username, but then didn't do much more.

Since last week the registrations on bsky have been opened, i.e. you can now register without an invite code, which has brought bsky 1 million new users in the first few days.

The special thing about bsky is the decentralized approach and many things about it remind me of Hive.

Central to this is the AT protocol, which makes it possible to create decentralized social apps and filter algorithms (custom feeds) for bsky.

However, bsky is not as decentralized and censorship-resistant as Hive. And the independent, third-party bsky apps do not yet exist.

Any bsky user with a little coding experience can create their own feed on a topic, for example, and users can then subscribe to these feeds. There are feeds for crypto topics, science or cat photos, for example.

This is a really cool idea to solve the algo problem of social media, where the platform curates the user feeds with a secret algo and thus has a lot of power over what users see or don't see. Unwelcome posts can then be secretly hidden (shadow banned) or you have to pay to be seen at all (X Premium).

The vision would also be that you only have to register with one microblogging platform, but are still networked with all users of all platforms.

That would be utopia, but in my opinion it probably won't happen simply because of different company interests.

The problem is also that every new project like Nostr or bsky wants to establish its own open protocol instead of relying on a common standard.
