In the last [Town Hall](https://peakd.com/hive-13323/@splinterlands/splinterlands-town-hall-summary-march-23rd-2022-1pm-eastern) there was a ton of new and interesting information and I am so excited because of that. One that caught my eye the most was the new reward structure. I can't tell you how I am excited about that as this will change Splinterlands economy for the better. With the current rewards system players that are playing in the Bronze league are getting only 1 chest from the daily quest. This may be a bit boring as you often get a potion or a low amount of credits that are not of much use to you. It seems that you can't get very far this way and it is very frustrating playing 1-2 hours just to get a potion and 10 DEC. That is why the new reward system will have different tiers of rewards chests and you will be able to earn a significant number of chests even in the Bronze league. I think that this new system will increase the number of new players and help them progress faster, without big investments. This change will definitely be a good thing for Splinterlands! ## Power requirements and what it means for the economy It is announced that power requirements for the Modern format will be half the current CP requirements. At this point, I have around 180k CP. After the new format is implemented I will be able to play in the Diamond 2 league. Honestly, I never thought that this could happen when I started to play Splinterlands. The only problem is that I don't have cards that are leveled up for Diamond league but I am slowly working on that. **What to expect from the Splinterlands economy?** There are more than half of the Chaos Legion packs left on the market ready to be bought. This is going very slowly because the market is down so people are not investing much. Up to this date, 8 million packs are sold and only 50% of that is opened. With power going down there are two possible scenarios of how this will affect the card market: **1. Card prices going up** Due to lower card power requirements, people can now stretch their money and play in higher leagues which means earning more rewards. While lower CP requirement allows you to play in the Gold league instead of the Silver league you will have to invest more money to be competitive there. That means more buying pressure, therefore card prices go up. **2. Card prices going down** Lower card power requirements mean people don't have to buy more cards as they are set for a league where they want to play and they don't have to rent anymore. This is drawing buying pressure down which means lower prices of cards. --- If you ask me, I think that reducing the CP needed for each league is not what is going to have a big impact on card prices. Yes, some people will buy a bit more cards, but I don't think that we can expect a huge spike in prices because of that. **Remember, we still have 10 million packs to open.** Even though I don't see a big impact on most of the cards I can see a noticeable impact on **SUMMONER PRICES** happening because of this change. ## Starter cards I expect that change regarding Starter cards will have the biggest impact on the economy. Using all starter cards in the game will earn 0 rewards. Using only a few starter cards will earn you rewards, but a reduced amount. That means you will need to invest a few bucks on top of that 10 USD for Spellbook to earn some rewards. For me, this is a good change as it encourages card ownership and it will have a huge impact on the bots as they will need to spend money to earn some money. At this moment we have around 400k daily active users. Most of those accounts are low league players that do not have a lot of cards and they may be playing with starter cards to earn their rewards. It means that all these players will have to buy some cards to start earning some DEC. With reward changes, they should be incentivized to do so. This could create a big buying pressure on new and cheap cards driving prices up and therefore speeding up Chaos Legion packs selling. --- This could drive the prices of all cards way up but it seems that it will affect summoners the most. If you think about it, summoners are the only cards that are you using in every game and it makes the most sense to buy a summoner to get your rewards from battles. Now, there are only small amounts of summoners available on the market and such a big pressure could make the prices of summoners skyrocket. Especially if bot owners decide to invest in their "machinery". ## Land expansion I will just briefly mention the upcoming land expansion as I believe it will have a huge impact on card prices in the Splinterlands. Most buildings on the land will require some existing Monster and Summoner cards to "work" in them in order to function. This will also affect card prices as you will lock some of your cards on the land. At this point, I think that summoners will become very rare and I won't be surprised if the cheapest will go for 50 USD per BCX. You can read more about Land expansion [here](https://peakd.com/splinterlands/@splinterlands/splinterlands-land-expansion-details?ref=tehox). ## Summary I can't wait for the new changes that are happening in Splinterlands. It seems to me that all those changes are good and that they will have a positive impact on the game and on the economy. I believe that all those changes will affect card prices, especially those of the Summoners. That is why I am actively placing my bids on **Peakmonsters** in search of cheap ways to buy summoners and other cards as I believe those cards will be very expensive in the near future. In a few months, people will be wondering how we were paying General Sloan 2 USD per BCX or Grund 3 USD per BCX. I think that an amazing time for Splinterlands is coming and I am investing accordingly. Please, do your own research before investing in this game or crypto in general as this is not financial advice. It is the perfect time to buy some cards and rebuild your deck. Packs are not selling as fast as expected so prices are stable. I expect them to go down even more once we sell more packs. But there is always a possibility of new players joining and buying tons of cards, so be careful.
