Once upon a time I had a great idea to assemble a great book, a wonderful book; the best of all books, even. *The Big Book of Dick Pics*. I haven't started yet. It is certainly not for a lack of Dick's, or a lack of pic's; it's rather a lack of time to actually do the compilation.

I suppose there is no time like the present, though, and I have a little bit of time to begin. So, without further ado, here are some famous Dicks.

**Dick Tracy**

Not a real Dick, really, but not only a Dick, but a dick by profession as well.

If there has ever been a Dick to look up to, Dick Tracy is the one. This Dick has been in radio, comics, books and even a rather unfortunate movie with Warren Beatty (just proof that not every Dick can be at his best all the time, regardless of who is wielding it at the time).

Dick Tracy is known for the plethora of tools and toys at his disposal, in addition to being a good shot with his pistol. He has a gadget for every need and always comes through in the end, on top of every situation. 

**Richard Nixon**

Richard Nixon not only holds the distinction of being the first President Dick of the United States, he was also the first Vice-President Dick of the United States. To date he is the only Dick to hold both levels of the Executive in the United States, making him a very powerful Dick indeed.

History remembers Richard Nixon - or *Tricky Dick* - as the Dick behind the Watergate scandal, which just goes to show that when the power the Dick's wield are used incorrectly, bad things happen.

American Author. Dick Yates was an author in the mid 20th century. This Dick had the potential to become "The Great American Novelist" in his lifetime and, indeed, critical acclaim to his novels was superb; he was lauded by critics nationwide as a master of his craft. Alas, financial achievement eluded him in his life time, going to show that not all masterful Dick's are financially rewarded and paid for their output, no matter how well used.

There are hosts of additional historical Dick's that could - and should - be included in this needs-to-be-made Dick Compendium: Richard the Lionheart, the Dick who spread across Europe and launched the Crusades; Richard Branson, the Virgin Dick; Richard Wagner, Dick of the theatre, and the list goes on. Indeed, history is full of Dick's of both great and little import, such as baseball pitcher Dick Pole who played for the Portland Beavers and served them well.
