I must confess that I felt wronged after the whole incident that occurred a year before Covid19. I never for once thought I would be scammed in such a way. A good deed it was to me but to the scammer, it was a profitable way to take my hard-earned money.

It all started at the Media company where I worked. As far as I can tell, I am a kind fellow and I love keeping secrets even when my zodiac sign says not.

I caught a colleague of mine pressing her boobs when I wanted to use the convenience at work. She was shocked when she saw me but I didn't mock her, instead, I asked what prompted her behavior. She relayed to me that after the discussion we all had during lunch on breast cancer, she decided to check on herself since it has been a long while she breastfeed her children after her husband left her. I pitied her and asked her if I could feel her boobs which she gave me a go-ahead. After feeling her boobs, I noticed some lumps in her breast and asked her to meet up with her doctor to confirm.

On getting to work the next day, she came over to meet me before lunchtime to explain the outcome of the diagnosis. I kept a listening ear and felt more sorry for her after the discussion. She was diagnosed with breast cancer. It is a horrible thing. 

According to her, the doctor said it was not in its critical stage though they needed to operate on it. It all boiled down to funds to help her travel out for the surgery. She asked to borrow some money from me and I didn't even blink an eye in sending it to her. I am a woman too and I know how urgently she needed the money.

After sending the money to her, she made me promise not to tell anyone which I did. It was her business. She wants it private and I respect that. 

She was given a leave from work to treat herself after she spoke to the boss and I wished her a successful operation. I was glad her 3 children were already grown to take care of themselves as she once showed us a picture of them on her phone.

After some weeks of her leave, I decided to put a call over to her to check up on her but she didn't pick up. I was a bit scared as I didn't know how the surgery went. 

On my arrival at work, a colleague of hers in her department called her when we were having lunch. She picked up and we all sent greetings to her. Thankfully, everything went smoothly and I was glad she was okay and back in the country.

I decided to call her after some days but she didn't pick up. I tried again and again even when I got to work. I noticed she picked up others' calls at work which made me suspicious of her attitude toward me.

I never even had it in mind to ask for my money. All I wanted was to call her to know when she will be resuming and to know if we can come over to see her. I swallowed the urge to ask anyone if she asked them to borrow her money too because of the promise said to her.

A month after the incident, I overheard some co-workers talking about the woman and thanking their stars that they didn't borrow her money. I moved closer to them and asked what happened and they said she wasn't resuming. It was from them I got to know the boss gave her lots of money to aid her surgery and even doubled her salary. The information got to me and I was pushed to call her again but she didn't pick so I sent her a message. 

When I got home, I called again and when she picked up, it was to tell me how disappointed she was that I told everyone at work that I borrowed her *"just $60"*. I was shocked as I never told anyone. Not even my Guardian angel. I was disgusted by her statement and told her to send the *"just $60"* she owed. She hung up without saying anything.

When I got to work the next day, I met with a very close colleague of mine and narrated the incident to her. She was surprised I didn't tell her as we are very close. She was so angry that she almost called the woman to say her mind but I had to calm her down.

The woman didn't pick up my call again and when I call with a strange number, she picks but when she hears my voice, she ends the call. Her number was later switched off and no one could get to her. I didn't know where she lived but a colleague of mine told me she left the house she stays some weeks ago.

That was how I lost $60. It was painful as I needed the money to add up my rent. I had to do some side jobs to be able to pay before my rent got due. 

The incident was hurtful and I wished I could stop being kind but that isn't who I am. I still borrowed a friend of mine money even when I said I wouldn't and she paid it back. I was happy she did and instead of not borrowing people money if I have, I decided to borrow them the money I know would not hurt me too much if it turned out that I got scammed again.
