0.000 HBDLots of fun in Casual with this new Set!
I tweaked my Amazon deck with two new cards from the BOTW set and then took them into casual. I immediately ran into two crazy decks that looked like a ton of fun: Annoint Light featuring Pyramid Wardens and Nether deception featuring Deuteria and the new deception relic! Both of these decks can easily catch an opponent by surprise. I'm just having fun watching people experiment in casual. Who knows? They may find the next broken deck! I wanted to show gameplay of both. # My deck (quickly) Not really the point of the post, but I'll list it incase anyone is curious. In short, I've fit Divya and 2x Blighted Scions in. I lost a Faeflame for Divya and 2x Axewomen for the Scions. Code: GU_1_5_CFsCFsBEuBEuCGACGACFuCFuPAkPAkCAvCDYCDYBCCBCCCFvCFvCBxCBxCFyCFyBCRBCRLALLALPALBGtBGtIARIAR Same basic Amazon deck I've been playing (with moderate success). It's a buff-heavy deck with ward and hidden, so unlike most amazon lists, the point isn't necessarily to get wide. Of course, this means you can't one-shot your opponent with Divya and a board full of 1/1 amazons, but I think it is more consistent. # Game 1 Now for the meat of the post. First, here's the deck I faced. Clearly not optimized, and he probably only owns one Pyramid Warden, but the idea is definitely there. Code: GU_1_3_CBKCBKPAjIChIChBAOBAOKABKABCFWCFWCDhCDhBGLBGLBGJKAMKAMBEXPACPACKAPKAPCEdCEdCEeCEeKAXPAFPAD The idea of the deck is to get either Pyramid Warden or Pacifist to incredible HP, Annoint, then match strength to health using either: To make matters worse, those enormous creatures have a lot of support! I faced him twice. The second time, he got his combo to pop off, so I wanted to share that game. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/1LQng8e8DSw" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe> ## 2 Mana So this is the second game, so I know his basic game plan. He gets his (one!) Pyramid Warden down on two mana. This is already terrifying. I throw as much damage as I can at it, even risking the Primal Guidance (which misses). ## 3 Mana Luckily boar goes Pyramid Warden, and I think the coast is clear. But oh no! At 4 mana, he brings the PW back to hand with Inescapable Duty! I forget that he'll have 4 strength, so I mistakenly think my Blade will clear him. ## 5 Mana This is the turn his whole deck is built around. At 5 mana he casually puts 25 stats onto the board. That's incredible! I'm expecting the Annoint next turn plus another olympian to put him at 18/18. The only play is to throw all my creatures at it to try and reduce its HP. ## 5.5 Mana So that's why he's running heal. He gets PW back to 9/10 AND plays a selfless protector. Now, under normal circumstances, this is real trouble. However, he doesn't realize that a soulless creature doesn't go to the void, and thus, Protector can't summon it back. The other bad thing about Protector that I'm guessing he doesn't realize: by entering the Void, the PW loses all buffs. Luckily, I have just the right amount of damage to clear the monster. I can feel his pain when the PW doesn't come back to hand. That's basically the game. Now as I said, this list isn't perfect, but the core concept is there. Now think about Argus. This is going to be nuts. # Game 2 The second game is just as much fun. Let's start with the deck: Code: GU_1_2_CFLCFLCBbGCKGCEIAlIAlIClIClPASPASCCMCCMCEwCEwCFOCFOPAUPAUPARCCgCCgGBEGBECAJCAJPAmPAmCFQCFQ So we're looking at a cheap take on control deception, but featuring Nethers given all the new support they received in BOTW. Sounds fun! One combo that goes off against me in game is: Now the full combo would include Shrike on board for some true insanity: This would be ripping cards off my deck like crazy, but even just the two is nice. Against aggro, stealing cards from the top of the deck means you have creatures to play to fight for board and slow down your opponent. Against control, you can easily steal win conditions. It's a very interesting concept. This is an interesting strategy, but on the other hand, filling your deck with Deuterias actually means Control has less of a chance of finding removal. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://3speak.tv/embed?v=kstreet/dvaadebm" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> # 1 Mana I mistakenly guess aggro deception and go with Selena's Mark. On the other hand, filling your board with badgers fuels control Deception's Rapture Dance, so maybe it doesn't matter much. When he plays his first hand disruption card, I recognize that he is control. # 4 mana This is where the shenanigans begin. He plays Deuteria and immediately brings it back to hand. This gives him one of my cards and lets him play Deuteria again (given him another 3/3 in his deck). # 5 Mana I play around Umber Arrow nicely. That's all. =) # 5.5 mana Two lurkers? I'll take both of those thanks. See what he does?! More Deuteria + Dark Deliverance + Relic + EVEN MOAR Deuteria. Now that's fun. And he removes one of my creatures from the board. Unfortunately, that's all the time he has. It's a really interesting concept, though. Also, he didn't find his Dark Precarions for near-infinite sleep. Had he, things would have been much different. I think this deck might have legs. Maybe a few tweaks.
