Sunday Date with Millipede !
***Do you know Millipede is an animal with thousand legs***?🤔🤔🤔

Even I was not aware and was considering them as from Insects family. Untill, I found this :

> *Millipedes are cylindrical or slightly flattened invertebrates. They're not insects—they're actually more closely related to lobsters, shrimp, and crayfish. The word “millipede” translates to “a thousand feet”* - [src-nwf](https://www.nwf.org/Educational-Resources/Wildlife-Guide/Invertebrates/Millipedes#:~:text=Millipedes%20are%20cylindrical%20or%20slightly,them%20quite%20have%20a%20thousand.)

> *these yellow-spotted millipede, is wondorous Harpaphe haydeniana. Other common names for this species are almond-scented millipede, cyanide millipede, and night train millipede. Belonging to the arthropod family.*

These days *(rainy days)*, we can find them everywhere, scrolling on the floor, on the wall, on the grass almost everywhere. And this morning I found huge cache of them. Resting under the moist soil. At first it looks like Gold jewelery, but in actually they were those small animals finding peace beneath the moisture soil.

What looks to be a jewel can give goose bumps to many. Atleast to my aunt for sure. She has a kind of phobia with these millipedes and star5 shivering and fainting the moment these were taken closer to her. So these small animals can be a killer in itself.

Sunday usually happens to be cleaning day, and when I was busy carrying out similar act on my terrace, cleaning the dried algae after the scattered rainfall, found these millipedes underneath a broken pot. This is completelly an unusual encounter as I never expected them in such huge number.

![IMG_20230827_060327.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/steemflow/EoK7GTRZvGj9XWuQPax1iMc4uuv2WNhj1EmiAPq6Pbjne78dSFyb5eHqhzuHtfNucs6.jpg)

Some of them were inside the soil, s9me of them were mating, some of them caressing each other while many sleeping under the moist soil. They seems to love the moist temperature and that too in soil.

The ***black and yellow*** colors does give them a different look. These are not poisonous nor they bite. Many of these met with an unusual end with an accident under human feet. It is hard to keep them away when it comes on your path.

These millipede free flowing scroller, wh9 does not loves to get any bl9ckages on their path, or they are scared of human, as the moment they notice some human presence on their path, they rolled their body and lays their silently, without any movement.

*These curling of the body, is actually their self style defence system. By curling their body, they release a strong toxic smell which is like of almond*. Though it not as poisonous to human but such sometime the smell get unbearable to humans. Here are some more captures from our moist terrace.

*The closer I get to them, the more we get blurred images* and also they are alwsys in move except few of them. They also like to **mate** on top of one another. They like get inside the soil. But the moment they were discovered they started to move in different direction, as they were running for their life. In no time, they vanishes from my terrace through the walls or might they hide somewhere. I threw few of them without touching them.

This Sunday date is unique and memorable, as I never had them before on terrace. A very close one!

## Peace!!
